Did any brits see it on BBC2, from the adverts that were on I thought it would be kack, boy was I wrong.
Best BBC wartime drama since HBO/BBC Band of Brothers.

I like the blend of drama and documetary and that the whole show is based on first hand accounts of the soldiers and sailors involved.

on the down side the german uniforms were late war camoflage not the early war type

I saw it from 9:15 to 9:45, had to go out. but what I did see was amazing. It kind of had echos of band of brothers but without the sappy music and hollywood gloss which made it really worth watching. They didn't pull any punches on the Germans either. The bit when a group of British soldiers were captured by the Germans was pretty grim. They were shoved in an old shack while their commanding officer was quoting Geneva conventions, the German just shot him with his Luger and proceeded to order the Brits out in fives so they could be executed. When they wouldn't come out this other German soldier casually started throwing sitck grenades in to finish them off.

I'll have to tape next weeks episode to see it all. Good program

Did this really happen? is there proof of it, as none of the books I have read on the fight mentions this happeing after the battle was over.

They were not the regular army but the SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler

a nasty bunch, nothing would surprise me concerning SS troops, I've heard all sorts of stories from relatives who fought them.

the soldier whose tale it was managed to escape but got caught by a regular Wermarcht unit, he was then treated fairly

Yeah - I saw it.  Pretty good stuff.  It made you realise why we had to fight and not surrender.  The BBCi stuff on afterwards was pretty cool as well.  Bravo to the Beeb.  I had thoughts that they wouldn't do this justice.  Thankfully I was wrong.

I'm still wondering why The Mustache did not completely pursue the weakened British, just to end the threat to his own side.  By the way, I don't have access to that program here in New York and I wonder if that was discussed in the program!

Hitler lost his nerve after Churchill came out with his famus "We will fight" speech. While the speech was ment to prepare the British for a long and hard fight I am certain that it was also aimed at the German High Command where Churchill scored a bullseye in bluffing Hitler. There was also Hitlers fear of the fleet taking loses which it certainly would have in an invasion of the British Iles which the longer he waited the more it weighed on his mind.
