Glad that you are checking out prices and such, let's get the ball rolling. Still curious though, is Hawaii postage airmail or what? It would be better for me to mail a money order to SL if it is airmail, might as well get all the eggs in one basket.

$100.00 in pledges so far, that is a pretty good chunk of a decent monitor, even if you have to buy a Best Buy brand or something.

Well, did the pricing and it looks like the Navy Exchange is the winner!

In fact I want to ask you kind and loving folks to NOT send us any of your hard earned money since the NEX is allowing home layaways on comp stuff!  YAY!

All we have to do is pick out a monitor that we want, put at least 15% down on it and then do 6 payments!  So with that I am thinking I want to go with a 19" flat panel or 17" LCD.  oooooOOOOoooooo YEAH BABY!

It does bite that Hawaii does not have a Best Buy!

I just want you folks to know that if ya'll are ever in our neck of the woods you have at least a place to crash!

PS JMM
Hawaii it is regular postage.

AlienLXIX is of haveing friends like you!

Well, we WERE going to just cruise on over there. Can we hang at your place for a few days? We'll bring a 21 inch monitor!  You don't mind do you?

I forgot you are active duty, the army and air force have a program where you use your active duty military I.D. like a credit card at AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Services). You get credit based on your rank, and can immediately buy products then make monthly payments on them!

Glad to hear the good news about the situation, best of all, military exchanges are TAX FREE!

What's even better, is that you have people that you have never met in person willing to donate CASH to help a brother or sister out! That's part of what makes Taldren forums ROCK THE HOUSE!

Doh! I already picked up the money order over the weekend. I guess I'll just make it out to myself lol. Glad it was sorted out, I had a monitor die on me not to long ago and it can be very frustrating using some old standby (Or worse yet nothing at all!)

I'm pretty good with computer repair, but I won't touch monitors. Too much voltage

BTW Ferrit, Alien, Thanks for the Invite, If I ever get the cash, My wife and I will take you up on that. hopefully around the time you all have one of those SFB games going on. On second thought, Are you IN Base housing? You get a bunch of us hillbillies over there, and as thin as the walls are. LOLOL.

Let us know though If we can help out in the Future Peeps.

This is what happened:

Had to wait for youngest to get his homework done (rule of this house is HOMEWORK FIRST!) and that happened at about 6:45pm AND the little runt had been home since 2:15!

Ferret had to replenish his ship on one of the Dyna games (lost 8 fighters on his Monarch) so we didn't get out of the house till 7.

Drove like a bat out of hel to get to Pearl Harbor NEX.  I did it in less than 20 min normally would be anywhere from 30 to an hour depending on traffic.  Gosh, I love my Toyota Sienna!

Found out that the NEX is open till 9, so we didn't really have to rush.

Decided on a MicroTek 17".

Tried to get home layaway, but it takes a current LES (leave & earnings statement) and a few days to get an OK.

Decided to try for the military credit line.  Didn't think we would get it but we did!  wOOt!

It's a nice credit line and we could make purchases right then and there (with a 10% discount for first time buying not only that but Sony is doing a $50 mail in rebate thingy!) so we said screw the MicroTek and go for the Sony 17" Flat Panel LCD!

Wow is it ever nice!  With a pixel pitch of .264 and a contrast of 500:1 it is one of the best that the NEX had to offer.

It's gonna take me a few days to get used to it because I am still used to the CRT.

Sorry I just wanted to make it sound more exciting than it really is!  Kinda like the FedEx commercials with the guys saying, "If it doesn't get there on time we're . . .  Doomed!"  "DOOMED!"  "Doooomed!"

DOOOOOMMMED!

How does the Screen Look with SFC there Ferret? Is there any shadows on It?

I've been thinking about flat screens for awhile, But I just like the qualities of a CRT still.

As a proud owner of a Sony VAIO in Texas, I can honestly say that Sony beats many manufacturers hands down, they are not as cheap, but hey, I ALWAYS believe in paying more for a quality product. I can tell you (Seth has had to help me out many times here) Dell really sucks arse. Not only do they build an ok but not that great product, they screwed up the town where most of my family lives, Round Rock, Texas. Why? Because his tax breaks in Austin expired and poor little Michael Dell did not want to pay his taxes. No wonder conservative Jews told him we do not want anything to do with you or your money when he tried to donate for synagogues and such.

SL, it must be cool to make a money order to yourself, hehehehehe.

Glad you love the Sienna, Toyota passed Ford in production and sales this year and is now the number one auto manufacturer in the WORLD! Too bad Germany, the Jettas rock, but you still got a ways to go, like releasing hybrid technology?

As a Camry fan, and you have the Sienna, and Dogmatix has a Highlander I believe? Make sure you buy NGK plugs when your tune up is due. Buy a Haynes manual on your vehicle, most modern cars automatically adjust timing, so tune ups are "gravy" for most auto techs. The Haynes manual has fotos, not stupid diagrams like Chiltons. Also, buy a K&N air filter, it costs more than a regular air filter, but is permanent and guaranteed for 100k miles! The oil kits (you spray it on the filter after washing it) costs around 12 bucks, and is recom every 50k miles or so. Most ordinary "disposable" air filters cost a lot of money nowadays anyway, and in 2 or 3 air filter changes your K&N has already paid for itself! The rest of the time is money in your pocket from savings! Many aftermarket auto places like Advance auto parts have lifetime warranty on wire sets. I recom NGK wires for imports, but they are not cheap, but are built exactly to Denso specs and are recom by Toyota and other Japanese auto manufacturers.

I have concerns about Vicky's Honda, it was due for a 60k mile services, and I do not see how in the hades anyone can do it for 30 bucks alone. I checked Honda's website and a servie parts kit alone is 99 dollars, add labor and is more. A lot of mechanics here are wannabes and rip off their customers. They really need an ASE cert program like we have in the U.S.

Last but not least, many places, including Toyota dealerships, offer lifetime warranty on shocks and struts now, if you take care of your import, you can get 200k plus easily though trannys usually give out before then, but 2k is not too much to have a rebuilt installed and keep your vehicle going.

Don't get too attached to your Sienna, this year Toyota is releasing a hybrid Camry, and a Lexus hybrid SUV that has a 6 cyl that gets the HP of a V8! It's only a matter of time before they do the vans and regular Toyota P/Us as well.

My brother in law has a 92 Previa with over 200k on it. Never had any major problems. The thing is larger than the sienna and guess what powers it? A 4 cyl that came stock with headers! Toyota was way ahead of us and still continue to lead the pack. The best thing I respect about them though is they have factories in the U.S. and Toyota is a dream company to work for.

Wow thanks for the links!  That should be helpful.

I would love to get the Haynes manual but the last time I checked they didn't have the Sienna 2004 yet.  In fact I get both manuals!  Nothings to good for my cars!

And you were saying don't get to attached to my van?  *snicker*  To late!    Besides with a 7 year loan it's gonna be awhile before we even think about another van!  We are hopeing that we have this baby for about 15+.  Also by the time we NEED a new van the kids are out of the house and we can get a two seater speeder!

What I really like is that this van pretty much sips gas.  We are avg. about 25.8 mpg on the highway and I think that's really great for a 6 banger.

Understood!   Leda has a 2003 Camry but as soon as the hybrids are released (car is already almost paid off), she will fly to El Paso and we will go to N.M. to buy a new hybrid Camry and she can sell the 2003 at her leisure. Toyotas extended warranty rocks, 7 yr 100k! Let me tell you folks, being an ex auto tech, even with the economy sucking a lil bit, parts and labor are NOT going to go down. A tranny job can cost you 2k plus easily (automatic, not a clutch, that's a different animal). What was the cost of this nice extended bumper to bumper warranty authorized for ANY Toyota dealership? 900 bucks folks. I had the tranny on the 92 XLE Camry done at a shop in Austin, and I did the R&R on my own at college, and it darn near ran me 1500 and that was with my free R&R labor!

If you are into more power, may I suggest headers when they are available aftermarket? You may want to check if it has a new powerplant, if not headers may be available, YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN POWER and you get same MPG!

The 03 Camry has a new 4 cyl powerplant, and guess what? No timing belt at 60k, no timing belt at 120k, it utilizes a dual timing chain and gets replaced at 200k! Ohhh what a feeling, TOYOTA!

Jeez... what is it with monitors lately?!?

Mine is becoming increasingly red to the point of nuttiness, SirGod set one of his on fire, and now Ferret and Alien have had their monitor fritz out.

I'm still here for now, SirGod has another one, but Ferret and Alien are without a usable computer system until they can score another monitor.

If anyone has a spare 15+ inch monitor that they can donate to Ferret and Alien, please contact me at JHaines3537@aol.com and I will give you their contact info.

Obviously, sending them email is not going to do much good right now.

Cheers and much thanks,

- Hsta

E-mail my wife in Austin, I believe she got a flat screen monitor and mine that I used with the Sony Vaio was a 17 inch I believe? Works great. She can talk more about which one she wants to use and Í'm not sure the flat screen is hers. People will need to pull together to pay freight shipping on the darn thing, I believe Ferret lives in Hawaii?

Her name is Leda Morris and my permanent address is in Austin, Texas.

Her e-mail is chicanica1@yahoo.com

Just tell her that you are friends of mine from Taldren (Star Trek, she'll understand), and ask her what the status is. It is not light by any means, but is energy star efficient and can handle any video cards on the market.

*Snicker*  Hey that's what we are useing now!  Ferret asked our son's if it was OK for us to use their comp's monitor and they being the helpful little monsters that they are said 'sure'!

I don't like it. (<---- OOOOOOO I have missed this little yellow guy!)

My eyes are bleeding!

We have no idea what is wrong with the one we have now other than it just won't come on.  The comp is fine.  The power cord and link to the comp is fine.  The monitor just won't turn on!  @#!*%&

Damn it I thought that monitors last longer than the comp does!  BLEH

[/rant]

Sorry I'll be good.

Mahalo Nui Loa for all the help!  I will try to get ahold of your lovely wife, JMM, and see what we can work out.  It would be the awesome to have something bigger to look at!
