Saying Goodbye to...
« on: May 03, 2004, 12:47:05 pm »
...the best (and only, but the rest of my family decided to go elsewhere, and well...) car brand I've ever had the privledge of owning.  After 106 years, Oldsmobile is closing its doors.  The last car off its line Friday, an Alero, is going to museum.  I have never owned anything but an Oldsmobile, and have been very satisfied with their performance and service records.  My first Olds had 180,000 miles on her when I bought her from my Grandfather, never once had to take her into the shop, even after getting slammed into by a Toyota Camry. (which by the way totaled the Camry, and just left the fender bent into the wheel rim of my Cutlass Ciera)  My only other vehicle is an Achieva, and I've had had no troubles with her yet, coming up on eighty-thousand miles, and she still acts like shes got 20 thousand.

Tis a real shame that they could never get past the "Grandfather" image that Oldsmobile generated, for they had a life long customer in me.  They will be sorely missed.

Things change. Like other brands that were retired or reimaged they might be gone for a decade and then be ressurected as the company reacts to percieved market dynamics. Mustang as a hotrod VS boxy sedan as one example. The ebirth of the stationwagon. The success of retro cars like the PT cruiser, viper and prowler and volkswagon beetle.
