Topic: Source Code for Win2000/NT4 may have leaked to the Internet (Read 3121 times)

Just finished reading this story at Warp2Search.net, Neowin.net, and a couple of other places on the net. Basically what is being said is that someone got a hold of the source code to Win2000/NT4 and released them to the Internet. What impact this will have to companies (including Micro$oft) has yet to be determined. The story to my knowledge is still being confirmed but has been reported on a number of tech sites. If I hear any more about this I will port it here. Anyone care to guess what ol' Billy Bob is doing right now??!?

What worries me, Is If the wrong hands get to It, and exploit even more Vulnerabilities. I really really hope your wrong about this one Javora.

I don't think switching to XP would help, considering it's built on the bones of 2K

AS a side not, I just went back to 2K...far more stable than XP when you run a ridiculous overclock...

I suppose that's the case, I kind of forgot about the where XP was developed from (I'm still running 2k myself). Then perhaps it's a ploy to get everyone to switch to Bill's next offering? lol. I'm so used to everyone jumping on stuff and saying it's all evil Bill Gates fault, and an underhanded ploy for money, I figured I'd just make the first post of that assumption.

Heh. I guess someone would probably claim it's one of Bill's devious plots...2K was actually one of Microsoft's better offerings over the last few years. XP isn't too bad (at least, the Pro version isn't), but it does have some absolutely brainless 'features' in it...

If the source code has actually been leaked, everything has changed. This could ruin Microsoft, their only defense against worms exploiting security holes is that it's not easy to analyse a binary for them.

From what I've heard it's not the full source, but it is about 14 million lines of it. Better keep your virus protection up to date and get a decent firewall if you haven't got one already.
