Does anyone remember Raistlin?
« on: February 11, 2004, 06:59:02 pm »
late 80's, was a series of books, he was weak in body but strong in spirit, dealt with his light and dark side. I believe his brother was a warrior named Carrimon? Does anyone know those books? If the director of LOTR did that one, he'd be a very wealthy person indeed.

But Raistlin was so sick, just strong in mind, and he went through dark and light. He was coughing up blood if I remember the series?

That series rocked. Who was the cleric?

At the end of the second trilogy, I believe Raistlin became a god didn't he?  His hourglass eyes became a constellation in the sky, it seems like.

I loved the first trilogy a lot, and would love to see it become a movie someday, but only if it was done with at least the quality of LOTR movies.  I fear though, that since LOTR was so popular that studios will thing they can spew out any fantasy license as a movie with lackluster quality and expect to make huge amounts of money (LOTR was taking some big chances to get made).  That always happens when a film comes out and defines a genre, all the crap comes out after and they say "oh, people are tired of this type of movie" when in fact they are just tired of bad movies of that type.

I dont remember his name but I do remeber he was a cleric of Sune. There was also Cyric who took Bane's place. You know, its likely in the D&D Mini's that they may end up making all of them as figures in the future.

At the End of the Second Trilagy. Rastlin gave up his Quest to be a God, after Caramon showed him that he would rule over a Dead world. Rastlin closed the Gateway to the Abyss with him still in the Abyss. Paladin in the end saved him and placed him in a place that he could "Rest"

In later books Rastlin does return. Once he came back to give the Staff of Magus to his Nephew Palan.

I would love to see a move of "The Test Of The Twins"

Aha, thanks for the refresher.  As soon as I read it it all came flooding back, of course.  I even read the story where he comes back to give the staff, so I was thinking "Duh!". lol.

Uhm, I think you're talking about a different series.  It's called the Avatar series or something.  The clerics name is Adon I believe...and other companions would involve Kelemvor and the lady who became the new Mistress of Magic, Midnight or something was her original name.

Dragonlance is actually STILL going along...though I think the only books really worth reading are those by Wiess and Hickman.  Raistlin has an interesting history...and yes...he's dead...but no he's not...you'd have to read the next duology and then the War of Souls trilogy...it kind of goes like...

Chronicles Trilogy - original dragonlance trilogy
Legends Trilogy - Raistlin and Caramon trilogy mainly, with some others added in
The Next Generation Duology - includes infamous Dragons of the Summer Flame
The War of Souls Trilogy - Okay fare.

There's another trilogy NOT written by Weiss and Hickman, but the writing is so bad that I suggest not touching it with a five foot pole, despite the fact that some read it and think it's vital (it's too bad it covers some important Dragonlance History, but the writing is so bad...it's not even worth reading...it's down and out, the worst writing I have EVER read...and I've read some pretty bad stuff from some classmates at school).

Oh yeah!!!!  I think those books were trying to flesh out some of the Minor players that were in the Dragonlance saga. A lot of the writing for those books was real bad. There were a few good books. The one about Lord Soth was very good I thought.

Bah! I'm still upset with Sturm's death. I didn't particularly care for the other characters, so I have been hesititant to read other series beyond the chronicles. Besides, it seems that Sturm's tale is not uncommon in Dragonlance. Flint dies, Tanis dies, Riverwind dies, Tas dies, Goldmoon dies, Laurana dies, everyone dies. I can take tradegy, but to a point. Life is depressing enough as is.

PS,  *Paladine* was the god's name wasn't it?

It's been a long time since I read any of them, but I thought Tasselhoff lived long enough to adventure with the children of one of the Companions.... < shrug > At least Sturm went down swinging, and not from drunkenly stumbling in front of an ox cart...hehe

Drizzt and Salvatore? Salvatore is an adequate writer, but hardly among the likes of Tolkien or Weis/Hickman.
