You mean the one from the 70's?  It's actually a combination of scenes/reedit of the TV Pilot and a couple of subsequent episodes.  The top and bottom of the screen were cropped off in order to give it the theatrical aspect ratio, so you are actually getting less if you buy the "widescreen" version of it.  It's not bad, although it has a few different scenes than the series pilot, as certain things were made different because it was a stand alone feature but the series needed some things to be different in order for certain storylines to continue.

I actually enjoy watching it from time to time, as long as you aren't paying a huge price for it (can't believe some of the prices at some stores these days.  I was at Suncoast around the holidays and almost everything I looked at was 25-30 US dollars.  Ouch!) it should be worth it.

The miniseries is on SKY movies next week (in the UK).

Curiosity has got the better of me and I will be watching it on Monday and Tuesday night.

Not sure.  Theres adverts for there intergalactic week on Sky - which features BSG - but also has all the Star Trek Romulans episodes, expect these aren't shown until 11pm onwards.  I'd tape it for you, expect for the fact I haven't had a VCR for the last year.  Saving up for the DVD recorder

If you are talking about the cheesey movie from the 70's then I'd say pass on it.
I would buy the 70's version only because when I was a kid I actually went to
the movies and saw it.

On the other hand, if you are talking about the remake mini series, I say buy it.
I really liked the remake.

Just my 0.02 cents. Your miles may vary.

Heh, to me it's kind of the opposite.  I suppose if you had never seen the original and had no previous expectations the new one was pretty darn good, but it strayed too far from the source and lacked a lot of what drove the original, such as hordes of robotic cylons and stuff.  That being said, I think that the new one was OK, just disappointing because it could have been so much better if they had just been a little bit closer.  To me it seemed as though they should have just named it something else and left out the Galactica names and ship models, as well as some fairly major problems like multiple nuclear plumes going off in the background but people are not effected by it at all, especially when you're hiding behind someone else to avoid the shockwave, and with the stated size of the warheads, there really should be no way they would be alive at all, all while the show claimed to be striving for realism, thus it's use of bullets and missiles (which I don't have much problem with, except that they are going to have to find more ammo stores as the series goes on, and is it realistic that they are going to find their exact ammo type on alien worlds, and if the Cylons use lasers then why not the colonials?)  Anyhow, there were some decent perfomances in it, I like Olmos and McDonnell a lot, I just wish that the show had been more worthy of their talents.  I could go on.

Sure the original had some cheese to it, but that was a factor of the time period.  If you can't watch old movies at all then it might be a problem, but I still find it enjoyable for the elements that aren't.  Quite frankly I found the reaction to the destruction of the colonies more realistic in the first than the latter.  Their was shock and tears, but in the new one it was rather monotone, and then let's hump.  I also found the Cylon "eye" on the ship rediculous, not to mention that the colonial pilot looks at the ship and says "It doesn't have a cockpit, there's not pilot" or something like that.  How the heck does he know, for all he knows it could be embedded and the pilot flying by instruments alone.  Anyhow, it's worth watching but I think the original had more potential if they had just gone with it and altered it a little to give the characters more depth rather than changing for the sake of change (which they admitted they did, throwing stuff out because it was too similar to the original).  If you can get the original for 12 bucks or so (which a lot of DVD's are now) then it's really not that big an issue anyway, I'm sure if you really hated it you could sell it off to someone on these forums, or on ebay for part of the price back, which would even out to a rental probably.
