How do you 'screenshot' a movie? I can't seem to do it...
« on: February 03, 2004, 01:05:33 am »
Despite my very best efforts, I cannot seem to screenshot a movie in either WMP or MSI DVD Player. Whenever I hit 'Print Scrn' and paste it to paint, its black, or blank when I'm all done and try to load it. It will not capture a movie on either pause, or play.

Is there anyway to defeat this? A freeware program or a trick? What can be done?

anyway, make a flm on VHS.

to screen shot It, Put It back on your PC, and Grab the screenie while It plays.

Along A$$ way of doing things but It works.

I use PowerDVD and had the same problem until I checked the options, and found there is three options for screen captures, Capture to clipboard, capture to wallpaper, or capture to file.

There should be something similar in MSI DVD.

Dizzy,

I use PowerDVD whihc has an option for capture. It's real handy too as you can do multiple captures. You can also toggle the movie to the exact frame you want then capture.

It's a real handy prog, imho.

I just tried a bunch of screencaps with PowerDVD and it works great.
Got the program bundled with my DVD burner. Made a folder in My Documents,
set up PowerDVD to save to that folder and it's all good.

Of course I used Fifth Element to test it. Man, I need help.

Yeah, I got PowerDVD with my standard DVD drive. I'ts sweet and I'd recommend it too. I don't know how much it is retail but considering how cheap DVD-ROM drives are it might be cheaper to buy a drive that has it bundled with it!

Dizzy,
If you are using XP you might want to check out Windows Movie Maker (download from
Microsoft). I was playing around with it today using some music videos that I have and
works pretty decently. I didn't try it with any DVDs so I don't know if it will work.
Just something to keep in mind to use in a pinch if you don't have PowerDVD installed.
