Generations at War - Ship list?
« on: January 28, 2004, 03:02:11 pm »
Is there a list of ships and what hull types they use? I am thinking of moving out of my favorite ship, the K'vort because its way underpowered to take on the AI with the new higher powered weapons. Before a CA was an easy target but now a CA will rip me to shreds, even from a distance. I know its partially my playing style as I have not gotten used to the new combat style but still, it seems that the K'vort has trouble standing up to a lot of things on its own.

K'vorts are not great vessels to use unless you are in a squadron for cover support.  You are right that K'vorts are a tad underpowered and need too use cloaks more often (If they can).  I highly recommend using other hulls like D5/D6D7's as their hulls are more balance on systems and they have great firing arcs in most directions.  People who play GAW make a mistake that you should "Close and Hose" the enemy with Klingons, this is an unwise tactic in GAW.  GAW Klingons are suppose too used at Medium range and wear down the enemy mostly with disruptors.  You can still close in and try hitting with Alpha Strikes at point blank range, but timing is everything.  Also, don't be affraid of targeting subsystems with your weapoins.  If you see a Rom with a Heavy Plasma and one of his sheilds are down, consider sniping at a distance at that system or hit his warp core.  Klingons have an advantage here with their fast firing dizzies and most GAW Warp cores are not designed too take a lot of hits.  If you even partially damage their Warp Core, their is a good chance that he will have less power too run certain systems.

Like I said before, don't be affraid of the old D5/6/7, they are still very useful hulls.

problem with those hulls is they dont suit my style of play. I figured that Ishould stay out at range, thats what I did before GaW. I think to be a bit more effective I need a wingman or two in a K'vort as well. I did manage to bring down a AI controled CA today so many I am getting my groove back.

Take a look at the MIrak CL.  So far the Mirak ships are the ones we seem to be flying the bulk of the time.  Remember to warp snipe the bigger AI's with polarons, you can't stand toe to toe and expect your hull to survive long.  And remember you have no cloak to help disengage if you are over your head.

Oooh! Oooh! I know this one!

That's where you stay out of point blank range (say out at ~range 20) and shoot your dizzies at an oblique angle, maybe 20 degrees off of center. For SFC3 purposes, you can pretty much ashcan the oblique part (since your forward shield arcs ar larger and AV reduces chance to hit) for an all-primaries alpha then turn tail while your dizzies recharge and come about to close for another. It worked well against the AIs on the Fun server, not sure about PvP with it, though. Perhaps I'll fly Klingon next time around.

Don't forget to look at the shiplist Library EE, I find this helps me alot when Configuring the Various Vessels.

Mass Is a very important thing to look at IMHO with GAW.

EE,

To see what ships are good I would suggest you start the game in single player skirmish mode then "buy" a ship and check it out in the refit screen.

Make notes of the shields, weapons, hull and engine spaces available.

Also note the locations, arcs and numbers of primary and heavy weapons for a ship.  In general its a case of more is more, heheheh.
