SS RAVEN version2 WIP -texturing
« on: February 16, 2003, 02:58:55 am »
Its coming along. 1st pic is how it stands now.    Makeing some headway. See I service my ships better than a Toyato dealer. I know this from 1st hand experience.

This is the pic I used as a guide to mesh it and am basing my texturing off of. Though I am going somewhat lighter.

Absolutely beautiful James. It looks great. I am really enjoying playing the prototype model you put out.

Hey James, what patch do I need to get the size thing right for OP? I still can't seem to get it to work right, its still about the size of the light cruisers, even though I put it in the "F-FF" category. I have tried several manipulations with the Ship Edit program, nothing seems to work.
Thanks

Tech support is down the hall and to the left.  j/k     hmm _ I am not to sure about all the patches and which ones do what, especially since there is EAW and OP.  I have mine in the FF slot and I have OP 2525.

Do me a favor-you can telll which version you have when you start the game up. In the lower right  hand corner will be a number. Not too big. Should be something like 2013 or 2525.  Its in the splash screen. The green screen with the pirate ship in OP.  Then we can figure out if its the version or just what.

Also I am curious. If you would'nt mind, try taking a BB or DN and putting it in your FF slot and see what the game does to it.

If your games resizes the BB then I don't think I can do anything on my end.  I will double check my files-I am human so maybe I had too much coffee or not enough.

If none of the above helps. I 'll email you a smaller size.

I'm not 100% sure but, I don't think that's been done in OP yet. In EAW there's a file in the models folder, model.siz, that does it. I believe the next OP patch will address that issue.

As far as I know, there is no patch to resize in OP. My 1st model was huge (planet size) when I 1st put it in game...then I was told to import the stock model it was replacing into MAX and re-size my ship down to that size. Might also work in Milkshape. Select the model then turn on the scaling button (if it has one) and scale the model down.(In max you use the "uniform scale" button on the menu bar. Hope this helps.

LS you work on planes-Cool

Well I post a new size here as the file may be too big to email now .  What may be going on is I don't have any stock models in my game.  So wasn't useing a stock model for coparison. Hmm I wonder what length Taldren police frigate is suppose to be.

I included 2 sizes in the zip. The 1 that I had been using in my mod. Then I scaled that down 60%. Daekyn,  I'd appreciate feedback so I know which one would work best for final release.

I don't think I want too go any smaller. Cause you can't quite zoom in all the way now on the small one.

James, I am downloading this now and will play around with them tonight. Figure that EAW does it but not OP, I wasn't able to find EAW in local stores here (that's Fairbanks Alaska for you) and grabbed OP when it showed up. Thanks so very much .

Well, I have been playing with all three, both together and separately and comparing them to other ships. I have concluded the following Mr. James;
a) being a "canon" sort of guy, if you accept about 305 meters as the size of the TMP 1701, then the smaller one is certainly more close to what it should be size wise. It also isn't much smaller (the proverbial "hair") then the stock Frigate ( I have not replaced all my ships with non stock ones so I have comparison, yet).  Although I have seen various sizes for the Klingon BOP, most average around 100 meters, which throws the smaller one off since it is slitly longer. However it is closer then the large version.

b) both versions are highly playable. I don't seem to lose  much in taking screen shots (which, btw, I have learned to do, thanks to the manual--I guess reading the instructions before asking actually works sometimes) close up with either one, and of course far away overhead shots are hard with most of the ships unless you are using the larger capital ships.

c) I can see where people might want the larger version simply because it is easier to see if you are zoomed out a bit. the Larger one is still only about half the size of the TMP 1701, slightly larger (less then a hair) then the stock frigate and noticibly larger then the Klingon BOP.

So, considering how variable "canon" really is, I suppose it would really be up to you which one you would want to release for the final version. Both are very playable in my opinion and I will likely continue to use the smaller one just because I like small versitile ships (thinking that such a ship would be as powerful as a frigate is certainly acceptable, since it is a TNG ship and was expected, for the borg mission, to be able to handle minumum crisis, and it did elude (not fight) the borg for several hours) I played with the Delta Flyer for hours, and it was much, much smaller, same thing with the runabout.  Although if the final version released was the larger one, I would be very happy with that.

Finally James, I want to thank you so very much for doing this. I had requested this ship several times on this forum before somebody said they would make it. You have done an outstanding job so far in your attention to detail and your desire to make it as close as possible to the actual ship. Small as she might be, the Raven is a awesome ship, and I have enjoyed flying her.

One more thing,

the download was only 1.5 mb. even at twice that, its not too bad of a size (I still use dial up) if you wanted to include both sizes in your final file.

Thanks for the feedback Daekyn. I plan on reinstalling the game after I back up my models. Then I will use the stock models to size it to 90 meters. Sounds like the one is close now.   Found out some neat tidbits of history on the ship that I will add to the readme.

There is a navy ship named the USS Raven also but I didn't read the thread.

I think many of us that mod ships don't spend much time playing em.  Myself I  am always tweaking a mesh or texture and have em in game mostly to test.  I d/l some cool ships I havn't played yet,  like Kreenargh's Hornet.

Also Voyager in general isn't as popular an era as some  others.
