In Tennessee, after you reach a certain age, 60 or 65, you dont even need to go to the DMV to renew your license. They send a little card in the mail, you send them your $10 (at least it was $10 when I lived up there), and they will send you your license in the mail. There was one old man that lived down the road from me and he was legally blind, but he still got his license. Can you imagine meeting a blind man driving a large Cadillac convertable comming at you on a two-way, one lane road? Where on one side was a mountain and on the other was a 150 ft cliff?

Thats nothing Shadow, when I was geting my cdl for the first time, there was a 80 old guy in front of me who could not pass the eye exsam so they refused to renew his license, but they did not take his keys or car and they did not even try to stop him when he drove off.  The Driveing laws in this country need to be toughend, Unfortunently the ones in power know it would be their undoeing if they ever tried to make it harder to get and keep driver licence.

I pull up to a stop light on US 53 and this brain dead idiot in a jacked up 4 wheel drive pickup turns onto the highway and nails the gas. Even with 4 wheel drive it wasn't suprising that the rear end broke loose, he gets out of the gas (wow, there actually a few brain cells working) and immediately nails the gas again (make that very few brain cells). The rear end breaks loose again (big suprise   ) and he has to get out of the gas once more and while any more or less normal person would step lightly on the gas after this of course this ding-a-ling has to prove that he is far from normal and nails the gas which causes the rear end to break loose one more time. Unbelievable, Shadow!  I think I have encountered some of these blind drivers.  I'll never forget the time some geezer was driving 15 MPH in both lanes of the Indiana Tollway, and as I finally passed him I realize he had his head back, his mouth open, and he was fast asleep (and probably snoring)!

I called 911 and reported it.  Beeping my loud horn didn't seem to awaken the dead ...

The weirdest thing I saw from a newly licensed driver was about 8 years ago when a neighborhood kid shouted to his friends he got his license, as he drove into a tree at 40-50 mph (in a 10 mph zone of course) and totalled his car!

Interesting Fact about yours truely...

I never took a driving test in my life.

Here in Oklahoma, at one time, the law allowed for when you turned 15 you could get a Drivers permit, with a written test. So I turned 15 on a wonderfull July morning, and My Grandmother took me down.

I think I missed one question (carbon dioxide smell) , but anyway, I passed, so we went to the tag agency In Claremore Ok.

the clerk announced that the cost would be $20.00 for the permit, And that we would have to come back in a year , Pay another $20.00 to have that Pesky restriction 9 removed, and get a liscence.

My Grandmother is a very Cheap women, and she through A fit. Here in OK, the liscence is supposed to last 4 years.

Anyway, she paid The amount, and low and Behold, I didn't have the Restriction on my liscence. No need for a Driver over the age of 18 to Be in the car with me. I took to driving that week and never looked back.

Secondly, I guess I followed my Grandmothers cheapness, I still have my AZ DL which I paid $20.00 for . It expires in July of 2030. I refuse to pay the same amount here in OK every 4 or so years.

thats why I use front wheel drive.

Here in So Cal theres a little stretch of freeway, one of the 5 near me. Well, I was leaving my dads at the time, on the way to work and took the 215 S interchange to the 10 W. This interchange is only a 50mph one. Me being a novice driver at the time, without a DL decided to take it at 60 one night, 60 was fine, next day was 70, then 80, then 90 and there was some tire squeeling but it was really light and I was in the inside lane. I decided the next night to try to push 100, I was doing fine until this truck in front of me showed up, he had no tail lights, I cut hard into the second lane at 100 mph and barely kept it on the road. From then on I dont break 65 on it, even though I have a car with superior handling to my dads old ride. Scared the crap out of me

The only real difference if this person would have had front wheel drive would have been the fact that it wouldn't have been as obvious to others that he wasn't getting traction. Driving in snow is a balancing act which requires paying attention to what the car is doing and a lot of patience because you can not drive at the speeds or in the manner that you would in the dry. I actually prefer rear wheel drive in slippery conditions even though I am driving a front wheel drive Pontiac Bonneville. I have found that the tires have more to do with how well a vehicle does on the street than whether it is front, rear, or 4 wheel drive. I just replaced the Hoosier's that were on my car when I bought it with brand new Goodyear's. Although I would swear by the Hoosier's in the dry or wet I swore at them when it snowed. Now with the Goodyear's the winter traction is amazing and I have to watch out that I don't get in over my head.

People sometimes think those little yellow triangle signs with the speed reductions on them are just suggestions :P

I love front-wheel drive!  My Malibu pulls me through anything that would've made my Suburban wag in.
