Kitbash Request
« on: January 23, 2004, 09:12:47 am »
I was wondering if someone would be willing to help me out.

I was thinking that Mackie's Galahad would look cool as a variant with P81's Excalibur warp nacelles.

And, if possible, changing the name to U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A?

It would be part of my own alternate universe idea...

Can someone help out a modeling igoramus?

Whereabouts can one grab the Excaliber from?  If it's just a swap of nacelles on the Galahad, I should still have the registry templates set up for it, so it wouldn't take more than about 30 minutes tops.  And I need to finish off some registry work today anyways before I go in to work.

As long as this is a personal ship and not a general release?  Or is this going to be for general release?

I think this is likely to be the P81's FCX.

Hey Atheorhaven!

Thank you so much for doing this!

I know you have a lot on your plat, so I'm really flattered you'll be taking the time to crank out a kitbash.

The P81's FCX and Excalibur are the same ship and both names are used interchangeably around here. I believe he made this ship as one of the concepts for the stock FCX we all have in game.
She's a real beauty!

Have them both on the HD now.. unexpectedly had some extra time tonight.. so np..

And you asked nicely without demanding, it's a small job for me, and I don't mind helping you out.

Just keep in mind that this is a private ship for you only.. if you want to release it later on, you'll have to get permission from all involved, but on your own system only, then np.

edit:  how's this for turnaround?  The mesh work is done.. just the textures to go.

Didn't know if you wanted the nacelles alone done, or the pylons and nacelles as an intergrated unit, so did both:

Perspective shots to show the difference..

Shot from the left side

Shot from the top

And from the front..

So which do you like/want of these two?  "A" version (nacelle and pylon replaced) is the top of the sets, "B" version (nacelle replaced only) is the lower of the set.  Did no texture work as of yet, as I'd mentioned.. this was just to establish which one to work on.

Woohoo!

You are the MAN!

I'm in piggie heaven right now!

You have no idea how cool this is for me!

Now, the hard part--choosing which one I like best.

After looking at both over and over again, I think version "B" wins by a nosehair.

And it is also the more accurate of the idea I had in mind (only replacing nacelles).

So I choose door "B".

Thank you SO MUCH!

(and she'll only be in my game, NP there!)

Actually, yes I do.  Way back when I first started, I placed a request and Captain Starkiller helped me out with it.  And the end result of his initial efforts and my subsequent work on it is my own personal ingame flagship.

It's that little Connie job that you see from time to time dogging along behind the latest ship that I'm working on, or testing.  I've done better stuff since then, but nothing gets me like my own personal flagship.  I love that ship.

"B" it is then.. I'll expunge the other from existence.  (grin).

np, and glad that I can help on this.  This also helps me out because it uses textures of p81's that I've not used before, so I get to create blanks.  And I need these for two other projects in my list to complete them as well.. so refining the texture blanks on your ship means I have them for the others.

Okay, blanks are created, so now I can do this.

Then it'll be seeing how the mesh and textures go together.. (on my texturing machine right now, and the mesh is on my wife's machine.  So that's to be done after sleep.

On the other hand, I now have to see all the FDN?.BMP files that p81 created now to find the match for the lower saucer on the other project I was creating blanks for.. but this won't affect your ship.

Which reminds me.. seeing that you chose the "B" version, I had one of the mod creators email me and ask to include the ship in the next version.  I'm not going to add in yours because that'll give you a ship that's totally unique.  But if you don't mind too much, the "A" version is still currently around and could be sent over to help him out with the mod.  Then everyone can enjoy the ship, and still give you one that's unique.  And then there's checking on Mackie's permissions and seeing if he'd mind if someone released a kb of his kb.

Don't think he minds at all, but should still ask him anyways of course..

Oh wow!

She's coming along beautfully!

I LOVE seeing her name and registry attached to that glorious hull!

As for using the "A" version for that mod, sure! I think you should share the wealth!

(And I just might pick up that "A" version myself at some point. After all, I think she's pretty much as cool as my soon-to-be personal Enterprise A!

You're awesome man!

P.S. A while back I asked Mackie for permission ahead of time to do bashes, retextures, etc. of the Galahad. (actually, I kinda pestered him   ) and he gave me and others such as Captain Ron the go-ahead.

Okay, it's done (at the expense of some sleep).

But the final size after I finished off making the textures (at all 1024) is 16MB.

PM me and we'll see how to get this to you.

I can already tell you that one Alec,

break it up into smaller chunks (under a meg) or upload it to a site and let him download it. Been there before!

Got yourself a nice ship there now.

The file size on this one (as I just mentioned in email) is because all the main textures that he's getting on his personal ship are going to be 1024s.  And they look really really pretty.

I'll try to get a render on it either tonight when I get home from work, or else overnight/tomorrow.  But for the "A" version, I'll be going mostly with the stock sizes on most of the textures.  Simply for two reasons.. downloadable file size of the finished ship, and also because then Kaeyne gets a really unique ship.

You asked nicely.

That was one of the reasons why I started doing things here.. I found it a sharp contrast from a lot of places in MeatSpace.
