Okay, in Photoshop i gave an image a drop shadow, and an alpha channel, and saved it as a TIFF with transparency (meaning the dropshadow is semi-transparent)
Right, so now i import this image into Powerpoint, and i read that the dropshadow will not look right in preview mode, but will look fine in slideshow (okay, great, i think so myself)


but here is the real problem, i want to print it (in this case export it to PDF format) but the dropshadow all of a sudden becomes entirely opaque.

NOT only this, but i printed out a page of this, and it comes out the same way as it does in the PDF.

So what im wondering is there a way to maintain Slideshow Quality in powerpoint when Printing.

While printing using the "Acrobat PDF Writer" is quick and convenient, I always use "Distiller" instead, gives you much more control over how the pdf file is written.  With that in mind, here is one thing you might try:

In the Powerpoint print dialog, choose Acrobat Distiller. Click Properties button, select "Adobe PDF Settings" tab, click "Edit Conversion Settings" button. This opens  the Job options window.

Under the General tab:

select Acrobat 5.0 Compatability (improved transparency support)
Uncheck "Optimize for fast web view"

Under the Advance Tab:

Check "Use Prologue.ps and Epilogue.ps" (retains spot color and transparency info in embedded graphics)
