Starfleet Command (SFC Original Game) XP Fix is now Public
« on: January 22, 2004, 03:50:38 pm »
Starfleet Command, the original one, has been given an Unofficial go by Interplay for the XP No CD Fix. This is an issue that has been bothering many players since Dec 2002 when Microsoft issued Remote Access Securities...

I have been trying my best to get interplay to even recognize the problem and as such, they have finally listened..

one of the people that I have sent the fix to had a previous request in to Interplay, and they Disavow any knowledge of ever giving out the Fix file to anyone, including me, even though I had direct dealings with their Technical and Customer Relations departments by phone in early 2003.

Anyhow here is a copy of the Email that they are issuing to customers who are wanting to get SFC working on XP machines :

Code:

Dear Gamer,

Thanks for your interest in Interplay Entertainment Corp. This is, unfortunately, a result of running the
game under Windows XP. It happens to some users and does not happen to others. It appears to
be highly system dependent, but does only occur to users of Windows XP. There is no known
official fix for this problem, since its cause has not been determined. There are some people,
however, who claim to have a fix for the problem. Keep in mind that this is not an official fix and its
use is neither encouraged nor condoned by Interplay. Here is a link to a site where the
gentleman claims to have a fix for this problem (about halfway down the page):

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfc12.html

He also claims, however, that you can get the fix from us by calling technical support; this is not the
case. You may also wish to visit Taldren's forums in order to obtain possible solutions from other
gamers and some of the designers and programmers of the Starfleet Command series.
These would be your best resources for solving the disc recognition issue that plagues many
Windows XP users. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Homer Parker IV

Interplay Technical Support

as such, I have updated my SFC 1 web page and have made the file a local download for anyone to obtain.. This is an Unsupported, Unofficial Fix.. and according to Interplay (if asked) it is not theirs, however it was their Technical Support Team who gave it to me along with the instructions of distribution. My website is now part of their Customer Service Response to XP issues with SFC...

http://www.nightsoftware.com/effhq/sfc12.html

I hope that those of you who still have SFC 1 will make use of this page.. it has had over 300 hits in the last month, so someone out there still has SFC 1...

Taldren_Admin Ann told me she would contact Interplay to see if Taldren can Unofficially host the fix as well.. I don't expect an answer back on that for a few days as Ann is very buisy and Interplay is very slow in responding back to people.

Thanks

Thank you for your continuing support for SFC1.  I salute all those who continue the fight after the publishers wash their hands of their products.  Personally, they are going to have to pry my Win 98SE disc out of my cold,...ahem, but I also respect those trying to get ANY software to work under XP.

I also want to report that your "sfc101-1021.zip" is corrupted.  It has a size of 2.2 MB, and the working file (I got from SFU) is over 3 MB.  Thank you again for your support!
