WYN Shadowfox class light raider conversion

K, finally got the LDR sort of done, put WIP as I think my textures look kinda crappy but I always think that about my stuff. Anyway, they're both straight retextures of Thu11s work, also I've done a version with red markings (in place of the Lyran white) for the command cruiser version and the texture for the light raider is identical to that for the double raider so it's 2 ships for the price of one there (was a nightmare lining up the WYN emblem so it didn't appear on the middle wing)

The Tiger model has no smoothing BTW which makes the textures look way too bright and very odd IMO, but Thu11s already explained on release the problems with smoothing on this mesh.

Just want to get opinions at this point, especially from Thu11s as these are his babies I've mutilated

I think the Tiger is *very* well done.  The only thing I'm not crazy about are the red engines (at least they aren't green)!

The Shadowfox is really nice too - I'm just not sure what to do with the Wyn...

What colour would you suggest for the engines? I didn't want to have everything blue cuz it looks kinda dull, plus I took the cue for the red from SFC2 Spacedock's LDR retextures of the stock Taldren Lyrans. BTW - the LSE (Lyran Star Empire) version has orangy-red engines anyway, I just made them more of a crimson red.

I would think we should have a place for the WYN in the GAW mod as they do cause a civil war in the Kzinti Hegemony, plus they're easy to make out of other models - can't wait for Thu11s to make a Leopard so I can try out WYN texture on that. (I say this in relation to the several hours it took me to manually select all those circuitry lines on the Lyran texture with the magic-wand tool so I could preserve them for the new texture

BTW I remember some high poly Mirak ships being done a while ago for GAW, are they available anywhere? As I'd like to turn them into Usurper versions (predecessors to the WYN) and possibly the FF into a WYN version.

Hey, cool, thats really cool as a LDR CA, raelly nice job  you really went around with the magic wand to pick all those bits out?, nutter. You using PSP? if you can open PSD's with that I'm quite happy to send you the original Photoshop files with all the layers intact, might make your job ALOT easier in the future!

I like the Wyn light raider too, my only concern is that the hull lines are a bit blurry, but i know I added a weathered effect to em on the original texture which may have made em quite hard to seperate off, but no, I like it Again, I should have the original files somewhere for that if you want em.

The Leopard is still on paper at the mo, gotta finish the Java and Siberian Tiger's first, then the Lion (and versions) need texturing. After that is finish the Cheetah (and variants + DW's etc)

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 7 (stopped using 8 as it screws up layers whenever you select anything and the tools are in wierd positions) Not sure if that can open photoshop files can it?

Re: the WYN I had major difficulty getting a convincing grey-white mix on that one, took me ages to get the colour and then blur the pixellation and blend in the white bit on the bottom of the Orion version, in the end I settled foro trying to get a very worn and weathered look and kinda went overboard by making the panel lines blackened and dirty like the thing has been in space for decades and never repainted.

If you want Thu11s I could send you the textures - there's only 3 - one for the LDRCA, one for the CC and one for the WYN LR/DR  it would save you having to make LDR versions of your Lyrans plus you could open a WYN section

PSP7 can open and save as psd...sometimes. If, for instance, you use the vector layers in psp, then try to save as psd, sometimes it wont do it. Same with opening a psd file. I use both in my texturing, as there are just some things I can't get the hang of in Photoshop, and so usually I have both psd and psp files for the textures. Gets a little confusing, since sometimes what is saved in one format is different than the other and remembering which is...

I'm still waiting for Thu11s to either get them for his site or if not just permission to release them independently.

Oh and I will obviously do versions for all those variants in the new thread but they'll probably all have the same marble hull texture unlike the LSE versions with all the different pelts.

I'm more than happy to host your retextures for the LDR. Will be ages before I even think about getting around to do any myself, if indeed I do any at all what with the growing list of stuff I keep giving myself! As for the WYN stuff, can't see that being a problem either, will have to open a new section for them, but thats as easy as done

If they're just adjusted images, then you can mail (or put up for download) them to me and I'll sort em out with the Mods and readme's etc with your details in em too and make pages for them all.

Ooh, forgot to mention. As it appears your version of PSP can handle Photoshop files, I can put these up for you if you want them with all the layers intact, may make the adjustements easier next time (selecting the green bits by hand, just makes me think "you mad &£$%"). They're about 2 - 3 Mb each though, so may be a killer if you're on a dial up. The two tugs use the same texture (cougar/puma, same cat, diferent names depending where you're from) and the pods use the same texture (although different from the ships). The Java Tiger is obviously all different.

You know that GaW has the LDR and WYN in it? It wouldn't look right to have Thu11s' old style LDR whips in with the brand spanking new Lyrans. If that's OK with you guys?
