ISS Excalibur
« on: January 20, 2004, 10:56:48 am »
I'm not trying to step on I_Mudds toes, but I was playing with the textures of P81's Excalibur Class F-CX to create a 'Terran Empire' (Mirro Fed) feel for an ISS Excalibur version.

I'm not a modder or a texturer whatsoever, just played with the feel in photoshop. The result is a darker, reddish, and as Rod O'Neal put it, weathered version. The idea for the Terran Empire in Galaxies at War is that they have limited resources in our universe, and therefore this ship looks like its been patched up from heavy action.

The ship on the left is the ISS Excalibur, the original textures on on the right for comparison.

Just like some Feedback. I guess I should put it into the game as well to see how she looks.

Well if people generally like them, I'll do some more textures for the Terrans, and add them to the GaW mod (if I_mudd agrees), and also release a Mirro Fed ship pack perhaps.

Wow, didn't think I'd get a response like that. Thanks Kaenyne!

Well I'll probably do some of the stock models for the mod, WZs Lexington would be another cool one. Of course I have to get permissions for any I do.

Can someone point me to this 'Gallahad', I'll take a look.

It is one of Mackie's kitbashes. (I'll try to find a link)

And I already asked him a while back if he minded folks making alterations to her and he said go ahead.

In the meantime, the Galahad looks like a beefier version of the Excalibur.

EDIT: Here's that link: http://www.the-tcs.net/dldir/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=37

The smaller ship is the Galahad. The larger one is called the Hellbender (which can be found at Mackie's as well).

Well since the Mirror Fed pack is now released, I've turned my attention to making some final detailed ships for the GaW mod.

I tried out using green glows as some suggested, but it looked completley unnatural in game, like having a green flare on the hull.

Looks allright with red-ish glows though - shown here against the stock F-CA for comparison:

Looks good to me!

However, if you wanted to take these Terran ships a step further in the "evil" direction, might I suggest changing parts like the navigational deflector, nacelles side and deflection crystal to red as well?

i dont think ther is any need in that becuse the terans by that time are inslaved by the alience forces

and star fleet dosent exist
but then againe ther may heve been crosings to this universe from ther side and stieling plans like they did the defaint in ds9
and the severing (that hapend in one of the books that william shatner wrote "the spectre" "dark vicktory" & "the ashes of eden"

very intresting btw

Well we are putting the Terrans into the GaW mod. I know about the fall of the Terran Empire, but to be honest I don't think it would have happened so soon after the 'Mirror Mirror' incident.

Anyway, heres the best I could do Kaenyne.

Not bad! And rather quick too!

I like.  Would you mind sending her my way?

Not to be nitpicky, but I would darken the new red portions just a little for some added aesthetic interest...

I'll make this point in regards to the Mirror Universe portrayed in DS9:

There's no reason to believe that the Mirror Universe shown there is the exact same one that Kirk visited and set things in motion in.  Despite what they say on DS9.

Think about the episode with Worf popping from reality to reality in TNG, they've shown already bajillions of universes based off the Trek universe that we were familiar with in that episode.. what makes it less likely that there are similar versions of the Mirror Universe that we first saw in TOS.

I like to think that the Mirror Universe portrayed in DS9 is a similar Mirror to the horribly flawed Berman-ized version of the standard Trek universe that we saw in late TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise.  And that it is *not* the DS9-era version of the Universe that Kirk visited in TOS.  But nothing is officially canon after Rodenberry left TNG anyways... just that the Berman-bastardized versions of Trek is all we see now.

Ruling out Mirror Universe ships simply because "The Terran Empire doesn't exist anymore because we didn't see it in DS9" is like saying that humans *will* someday evolve into the reptillian thingies we saw Janeway and Paris turn into on Voyager.  It was stated as fact in that episode as well, but personally I think the writers meant to say "devolve" past a primate stage without passing go.  Or that you can have the Borg inject Phlox in "Enterprise" and not only is he running around for days and days (from the looks of it) with nanoprobes Borgifying him, but that he's able to wipe out the nanoprobes that had eluded a cure from superior technology 200 years later.  Oh yeah, and they can easily clean Borg components out of Enterprise at the same time period.  Uh-huh.. welcome to Berman Trek.

I look at it this way.  Roddenberry said that the Empire would last probably 200 years past TOS, and I believe him because he created the Trek universe.  So it does.  But your mileage may vary of course..

Actually "The Ashes of Eden" takes place in the 23rd century before the events of Star Trek: Generations because the Enterprise-A is destroyed in that book and Sulu rescues Kirk and brings him aboard the Excelsior.
