This may sound a bit low tech in comparison but I just delete the crap from the registry and am careful what I download...

Deleting things in the registry, have you seen how many of the spyware-things, there hide under other names and even some under other programs, that you already have installed, like under Windows or some other normally installed thing on peoples pc's.

Careful what you download !
Sorry but it doesn't really work as some don't ask if you like to download it, just a plain visit to a site, is all there is needed, to make your pc, part of thier "spy-ring"

Try one of the programs, named in this topic, can't hurt, and seen how good, you are in deleting in the registry...
Also why waste so much time, deleting in the registry or in your cookies-jar, when you got some very good programs, there does it for you, in a min or two...
BTW they are FREE.

I run both ad-aware and spybot frequently. It's a good idea to use both programs, the spyware people frequently change to evade anti-spyware and two companies are less likely to miss the change than one.

Sorry, but I have never had a pop-up during any online game.
You need a firewall.

Have one...

But it was a program, one I never downloaded or more to the point, didn't know that I downloaded.
When a flash-animation was downloading, it came along like a virus but it isn't a virus, so my virus-scanner ignored it, it was a nice little piece of spyware or ad-software.

Here the anti-spy-programs came to my aid...

I have also seen and heard of other people having this problem, so why not share, on how to get them out of your PC.

Alot of ad/spy-software, come in/on your computer doing normal internet surfing and no firewall or virus-scanner can stop it. Even some of it, uses windows in it's aid, as there is still a few loop-holes in windows or browsers, where a firewall will think it's normal browser-trafic, and most of the time ignore it.

I use Mozilla as a web browser, so no popups there. Next, I have ZoneAlarm as a firewall, and I have it set to block Internet Explorer (I unblock it for Windows Update). I scan infrequently for spyware using Ad-Aware, because I don't download a lot of programs that might have spyware (i.e. stuff off download.com). Works fine for me.
