well, what helped me with that one was the fact that the moon covers the sun in solar eclipses to the point that only the coronal ejections can be seen ( the diamond ring effect ) so.. I got it right

Oops forgot about that....damn.

10/10.

Only tricky one was the constellations (not to be confused with the zodiac), was irritated I didnt know it but then again who compiles the "official" list of "accepted" constallations.  I am sure there are some people out there who would say "you forgot the "left handed gorrilla from outter mongolia" as the constallations are just made up anyways.

The one I would say is WRONG on the list tho is how many planets orbit the sun.  It should be 11.  Reason is that moons are defined as orbital bodies around planets that have the foci of the orbit INSIDE the planet (the more massive of the pair).  The earth and moon orbit each other around a foci that is part way between the earth and moon and as such we orbit the moon as much as the moon orbits earth, in other words we are really a DOUBLE PLANET.  Pluto is historically recognized as a planet but it and its "moon" charon do the same as earth and our moon.  ie pluto and charon are ALSO a double planet.

Just some thoughts (does this mean i can get extra credit for 11/10 ?????).

9/10 but didn't they just find a 10th planet making the quiz out of date?

Yes, I answered 10 planets.....

Many thanks SG - so when I got 10/10 I thought to celebrate with some shameless self-promotion:  I have some threads going in the modeling forum...

I got 9/10.

I missed the constellations questions --probably because it's more of a mythology question than a science question, really.   They are just arbitrary groupings of stars...

The 'size of the sun' question will get you because you're used to hearing the Sun referred to as a Yellow Dwarf.

The one that got me was the number of planets - there was some buzz a couple of years ago about Quaoar being the 10th planet.  I forgot it had been classified as a Kuiper Belt Object.

Same here. When it comes to the constellations, don't really know and don't really care.

And, if fact, some don't think Pluto should be called a planet for that matter...

That's true, I thought about that also, But I recalled the Belt Thing, and got that one right. But the Constellations really through me, I hadn't ever heard how many I guess.

Yep 8/10 for me too.

The constellation and sun/moon size. Thing is it's hard to tell the size of the sun in the sky since you really can't look directly at it without a filter and the 2 are usually not in the sky at the same time.

I missed the same too, then I thought about a Sun eclipse when the moon almost block the sun light.....but IŽd already answered by then.....
