The Eagles beat the Packers in overtime and nobody watched it???

Oh well, I think it was a great game to watch, and I'll be looking forward to playing the Carolina Panthers next week.

I might have been inclined to root for the Eagles if it weren't for crap like this.

The best thing was the pre game skit where they had Mcnabb beat the crap out of Rush.  That was so cool.

Yeah that was funny, glad to see the fine publications in Philly have decided to take the "high road".

Perhaps they can find some terminally ill people to make fun of next.

Well I will admit mistakes were made by green bay... but it would have been nice to at least "measured" or "reviewed the 4th and 26th play instead of allowing a flag, on the defense.  The spot was about 2 -3 yards off...  oh well.  It will be nice to see Carolina make the superbowl.

I don't usually read the Daily News, so I guess I missed that.  On the other hand, the Media isn't the team.  I haven't listened to Sports Radio this morning, but last night I didn't hear anyone talking badly about Favre.

I have tremendous respect for him as a player, and a definate hall of famer.   I feel sorry about him loosing his dad, but I was sick of hearing about the Packers being a team of destiny and Favre winning a Super Bowl for his dad.  He did already win a Super Bowl when his dad was alive.  I wish him the best, but I usually don't root for a team to win a second Super Bowl before a team wins their first.

About the game itself.  I definately wasn't feeling confident when the Eagles were down 14 nothing and Akers missed a Field goal (which he almost never does).  I think the spot was off by a few yards, but when I saw the play, I thought it was a first down if the refs spotted it correctly (they didn't spot it correctly, but they moved it to a spot that had no question of being a first down, so I didn't complain too much).  Then again, I don't think the previous play should have been blown dead, and it wouldn't have been a 4th and 26 play.

I was praying that GreenBay would punt the ball, instead of going for it on 4th and 1, and I got my wish (I don't think the Eagles would have stopped him, no matter how good they've been this season at stopping 4th and 1 plays).

Anyway, I look forward to playing Carolina next week.  No matter how good they are, I am definately not as worried as I was facing the Packers.

Go Chargers!!!!  Get that First Round Draft pick for being THE WORST team in football....

Ohh..uhhh...off topic....

Yeah I saw a little bit of the game on layovers on my way back from New York....

Looked like a defensive game to me...the Packer RB ripped off this big run that brough the pack down to the goal line and STILL couldn't score...

some bad coaching if you ask me...get those points!

what was the final score? ok i'll look it up....

20-17 in overtime

Although I would like to have seen a game like the Colts-Chiefs game, that definately wouldn't fit the Eagles style, so they'd probably loose (Eagles give up big yards, but prevent the other team from scoring).  Sometimes the Eagles give up big plays, though (like against Tampa Bay, and the 2 touchdowns by the Packers), and that's usually when they do the worst.

I would have expected more respect for Favre, but I'm glad to see the Eagles make it for once, for too long they have been wannabes, now is their time to shine, if only for a moment.

They'll shine, until they bump into Manning and the Colts in Houston.

The Eagles, as a team, have some great players and a few very good personalities (McNabb for one).

Philly football fans, as a generalization, are renown around the country as some of the worst in the league.

Indy by 8 ... but I would feel bad for McNabb.

Good.

Too bad we can't use our reputation in the Super Bowl (not enough fans will get tickets, although I would be suprised if they don't get noticed).

I know the national media is always looking for an excuse to rip Philadelphia fans.  Many stories about fans in other stadiums don't get much attention.  In Philly, we usually speculate on what would be said if that happend here ("Philly fans are up to no good again!").  In Cleveland, fans cheered when their own player was lying on the ground motionless.  They booed Tim Couch into tears.  Giants through a snowball than brought an opposing coach to the hospital.

However, although I know all these things (and much more), I avoid saying it anymore.  Because having a reputation in other towns of being a stadium you don't want to go to is always a good thing.

Batteries.  Don't forget the batteries.

"You don't live in Cleveland."
Bengals Coach Sam Wyche urging fans to stop throwing snowballs onto the field. 1991 I think.

Ah yes, 2 batteries were thrown at J.D. Drew.  When the PA said to stop, it stopped. The reason why one or two fans were upset enough to throw them is simple.  It was because he refused to sign with the Phillies because of "Principle" (he wanted too much money). He waited a year, and re-entered the draft to play for the Cardinals).  Some  Philly fans took this as he didn't want them either.  The first game, he sat out with an injury (although the Philly Phanatic tried to lure him out with bags of money).  The second game he decided to play, and first a battery was thrown, then a second.  He wasn't exactly pelted by hundreds of batteries by everone in the stands.

BTW, here's the complete story of the snow balls at Santa.

First off, I want to say that it happened such a long time ago, that most people who bring it up probably don't even know when it happened.

In order to understand what happened that day, you have to know what happened before that.  Eagles owner Jerry Wolman had signed coach Joe Kuharich (official name: dumbest coach in Notre Dame history) to a 15 year, $900,000 extension.  Kuharich publicly siad "Now I know how Sutter felt when he discovered all that gold", before going on to a 23-34-1 record over the remaining seasons.  Sutter traded their future hall of fame quarterback Sunny Jergensen for QB Snead.  Jergensen went on to lead the decade in touchdowns.  Snead led in interceptions.

This season, the Eagles record was 2-11.  It was 0-11, but they won 2 games.  Normally this would be a good thing, but all it did was prevent the Eagles from getting the #1 draft pick (and getting future Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson).

In the game, the Eagles were loosing by halftime.  The stadium was filled with snow and mud.  The halftime show involved a giant float for Santa to ride in.  Unfortunately, it got stuck in the mud, so Santa would have to walk.  This would have been bad, but it got worse.  Santa didn't even show up!

Luckily, a 5'9, 170 pound man had worn a Santa suit in the hopes of catching the camera.  He was described as having looked awful, and, if he wasn't drunk, definately looked like he was.  As he walked onto the field, he was met with boos.  Then a snowball was thrown near him.  Then tens of snowballs, then hundreds.  Understanding the Philadelphia frustration against the lousy Eagles ownership, he thought it was funny.  Judging from the amount of snowballs that hit their target, some Eagles fans were probably more accurate throwers than Snead.

The Eagles lost, and very little people heard about it (One Philadelphia article mentioned it at the end as an afterthought).  That was, until Howard Cossel had his program about highlights around the league.  When he got to Philly, instead of showing anything about the game, decided to devote it entirely to the incident at halftime (along with some comments of his own about Philly fans).
