I don't think they look
that strange for Rom/Rem ships... In keeping with the generally ascribed Romulan easthetic, they are based on aviaform. I personally feel that the severe lack of source material sometimes limits the scope of what's possible and perceived convention hampers creativity - does no-one else agree?
Apart from the fact they both have warp engines, can anyone honestly see a correlation between the original BOP and the Warbird? Time gap aside, they are
so radically different it's hard to see how they could come from the same Empire. Is it not within the realms of reason to believe this could indicate that there is a very broad scope for variation within their design conventions?
As for surface landing, I like the idea, but I'll admit it wasn't a consideration - I think Heavy Cruisers and Dreadnaughts would be too large - the hulls are actually shaped to accommodate hangar bays for the contingent of fighters they're intended to carry...
Any other feedback is welcome!!
