Questions About SFC2 Shiplist
« on: February 19, 2003, 01:17:14 am »
I have been perusing the shiplist and have a few questions. If anyone has the answers it would be most appreciated.

1) Under Class Type - What does the SPECIAL designation mean?

2) For the monster the Doomsday Machine -  What version is the DMD?

3) Under the SPECIAL ROLE designation there are several types of letters next to many ships, but others have none at all even though they seem to be of the same type as ones that do have them. Why would some have them and others not have them? I think I have deciphered most of them, but could use some verification and clarification for the ones I don't know. These are the ones I saw:

M = Marine

V = Carrier

S = Scout

R = Restricted

C = Command

E = Escort

P = Police

T = Tournament

D = Drone

q = Small QShip

Q = Large QShip

I = ?

NT = ?

Thank you in advance for any helpful replies.

The special designation means a ship is only available in special circumstances (i.e. when it's specifically called in a script). The ship will not appear in the vessel library, nor in will it be produced in the dynaverse or in misisons (skirmish or D2). This is more restrictive than the R designation in role, which merely marks the ship as restricted to AI only.

.    DMD stands for Doomsday Machine, Dead.  In other words it is a doomsday machine that just sits there with no changing texture in its "mouth".  There was an SFC I Federation mission (the name escapes me) where one had to scan a number of DM's, one of which became active on being scanned.  (Not quite sure how this was achieved in the scripting API, but anyways....)

Thanks guys. Now all I need to know is what "I" and "NT" stand for and why some ships have these letters and others don't.

Only the ISC CA's (not BCH's) have the "I", unless I missed something and only Def Sats have the "NT", again unless I missed something.

NT is non transport, or something like that. You can't board it. PFs are also NT.

.     According to the ShipEdit 3 Manual, the  'I' stands for "ISC Special," though what that might mean I do not know.

Thanks for the answer. I don't know what it could mean either as these are their line CA's. The CSP and CSZ also have them and they are CL's
