As long as there are people wanting them, there'll still be leaks.

After some recent event 'round these parts I could'nt help but smile and feel that at least some fans in gaming are standup folks.

"It's no real surprise that the WoW alpha version has now been leaked on to the internet via a web of dodgy hack sites and IRC channels. The file has been distributed to the hacking community who are apparently working on a way to get this version up and running for the the mass of users who are trying to get their hands on a copy.

You may remember the mess during the Warcraft III Beta where servers were placed online allowing the hacked Beta versions to go multiplayer. A similar system looks like it will be attempted for the leaked Wow Alpha.

It's a shame this version has leaked and it just goes to show that no testing procedure is watertight even if you have signed your life over in an NDA.

Blizzard haven't exactly been pro-active at preventing hack sites distributing files, illegal item trading or the creation of duplicate B.Net technology. Maybe it's about time things tightened up at Blizzard HQ and these sites were pulled down with legal action once and for all. It's not as if they don't know where they are, we send mails continuously to Blizzard highlighting problem areas thanks to feedback from the Diablo II, Warcraft III and WoW community.

We advise you not to go searching for the Alpha, not only will it take a while but should you get your paws on it you'll more than likely be disappointed, playing a game in a pre-beta state can be trying at the best of times as I've found out over the years when testing for developers. Our advice, hold off and wait for that Beta, it will be worth it.

From what we understand by talking to various sources over the past couple of days, Blizzard have been aware of this leak and it is in fact very real. Thanks to the guys at Warbucket for a note on today's leak events. The topic is is open for discussion here.
