« on: January 04, 2004, 06:34:23 pm »
Ive been to the interplay forums and a few others but no luck on info to get them to run from thoes places.

The version I got is the 5 cd version, What happens is the splash screen comes up, click on install and notheing else happens. I was kinda wanting to play it again and try some of the player made stuff

Also the first Icewind dale does the same thing, any tips on geting them to load up

And yes I have all the latest drivers.

Hmm. A few things, Do a scan of the registry and see IF there still listed there. Sometimes, It may not have been removed in the last uninstall you did.

secondly, Have you tried running Setup/Install from the CD Itself, Ie. explorer, CD rom drive (D:/) and then setup?

A hard system reboot?

I know very simple things, But worth looking at first.

As Sirgod states, perhaps an install from the Actual install program on the CD.  The opening page is actually only a directory link to it, which for some unknown reason may be unopenable on your version of XP?

I know it works in my version, but I also know computers are testy things.

As Sirgod suggests, go to the CD drive (typically D: but I have a second harddrive labelled D on one of my computers, so it's actually E) and explore it...look for either an install or setup program...

If that doesn't work, perhaps copying the entire contents of the CD to your hard drive, and then try installing from there.  If it doesn't work, perhaps try compatibility mode?

Finally, if you are actually able to start the program, it's just not installing, perhaps it has to do with the detection size fault found in the original Baldurs Gate 5 disk set.  It had a problem when people had hard drive space available over a certain amount.  It was fixed in later versions, and I think there may have been a work around, but I never had to use it and hence I am uncertain what it was.

If you had to originally use DOS to install it and you're using XP now that might be a problem.  Thats the only reason I don't switch to XP, because I absolutely love Fallout.

And how does one copy the CD to the hard drive? and would I have to copy each cd to the hard drive or just the first one.

Hmm, I would copy every CD to the Hard Drive.  There are several ways to do this...

#1...drag and drop...drag the CD from the CD drive icon and drop it on the hard drive...

If that doesn't work...

Then make a folder and call it CD#1...or the like.  Than explore the CD and drag all the contents to the folder (actually that's how I made a copy of my BG disks and had them work perfectly fine).

Now if it is inherent in the install program, it's possible that you might get away with only copying the first CD...and then putting in other CDs after it...however...

In any other problem, you'll need to do the same with the other five disks.  When it asks for the next disk, it will probably ask for a location...put down the folder location instead for the installation zone...and the installation should continue.

Hope that is understandable and helps.

Of course, if your a real wiz (I'd have to look at the actual files on the CD again) you could put a note in the registry/directory pointing to a location, put all the files in that location from the CD's, and manually install the game dragging all the files to the necessary locations yourself...but that might be a little more work.
