FireWall patching, Possible?
Cleaven:
There probably isn't much of an alternative to DirectX and Direct Play for a windows game requiring peer to peer connections but gees, it only barely works.
And god help you if you think SFC is good enough to get your friends and/or relatives to buy it so that they can play with you on D3 over your home LAN and cable connection. What is common place for other team games is not possible with SFC.
So much potential, and yet no way to realise it.
Colonel:
i cannot connect to dynaverse/multiplayer because of a firewall here at my university. the college is unwilling to open firewall ports for non academic reasons(ie game playing). they have told me that the firewall is permiable if my computer is the sender. so if i send on port 2303 the firewall will let a reply through, but my computer must be sending. is there a way through a patch to allow dynaverse/multiplayer to work this way?
Cleaven:
You would need to "patch" DirectPlay.
TalonClaw:
It sure would be nice if the networking were a little more router friendly.
Subspace:
Yes I would run a Server if I could get the ports to work right ,,, I can play by setting my gaming as DMZ , but then i cant host a D3 server ,, So sry Guys
