Plz Help with router trouble.
« on: August 16, 2003, 02:14:28 am »
Hello everyone. It has been a while since I have posted anything her so here goes.

I just recently got my broadband/cable connection back and I bought a new router for My pc's protection.

the model is a D-link DI-604.

Now I am no stranger to setting up routers but this one is being a pain in the butt.
I cannot seem to get it setup to allow SFC to play online.

suffice it to say it's very frustraiting.

thanks for the help in advance.

What can I say. I gave away my DLink and bought a Linksys after trying really hard to solve the problems of D2 play. The DLink should be okay for D3 though.

It looks as though the answer is the same for both processor types of the D-link DI-604. (ARM7 - Rev A,B and C and the ARM9 in Rev E - their firmware updates differ). I recommend installing the latest firmware but that may not be necessary.

I notice that both models do not provide port range forwarding under "Virtual Server", only single ports, so this is unacceptaqble for forwarding directplay ports. But, on page 23 of the manual for both models however I noticed the following under "Applications": there is an entry for the MSN gaming zone triggered on 47624 using the public ports 2300-2400, 28800-29000. I think such an entry may work for SFC2, though you may want to add some ports for gamespy. You may want to have a look at the "Firewall" to make sure the ports aren't blocked. As a last resort try using the DMZ.

I can confirm that if all fails, the DMZ works.

I have linksys 614+.

I have solved the problem in my own, but I would like to thank you for all of your help.

If anyone needs help with the D-Link models DI-604/614 for Online play for SFC 1,2,OP i will be glad to help.

I have figured out how to forward multiple ports on the models I have listed above.

once again thank you for trying to help me.

<S> Lord Marauder or anyone else,

I have a D-Link DI-614+ Router.  Can you help me configuring SFC3 for Dynaverse and GSA using the router?

I have updated my router firmware to latest version 2.20.  I prefer to not enable DMZ if possible.  I have all the port information (I think), but I'm not sure where to put it.

My router can configure ports under a Virtual Server, Special Application, or Firewall setting. Here are the options under each:

Virtual Server: Name (label), Private IP (mine), Protocol Type (TCP, UDP, or Both), Private Port (single entry), Public Port (single entry)

Special Application: Name (label), Trigger Port (range), Trigger Type (TCP, UDP, or Both), Public Port (range/multiple), Public Type (TCP, UDP, or Both)

Firewall: Name (label), Action (Allow/Deny), Source (LAN/WAN, IP Range Start/End), Destination (LAN/WAN, IP Range Start/End, Protocol [TCP,UDP,ICMP,*], Port Range)

Which one of the above should I be using to configure all these ports? I think if you add them to Virtual Server or Special Apps, they also get added to the Firewall page. I can do most under Virtual Server except for the port ranges. I could use Special Apps if I knew what the Trigger Port & Type is.

Lastly, I have a PC and a high-end laptop.  The laptop can run SFC3 with no problem using direct connect to my high-speed DSL (no router).  Do youhappen to know if this will work with a wireless D-Link DWL 650+ PCMCIA card?  Or must I connect the PC or laptop via hardwire to the DI-614+ router?  The wireless card is capable of 22Mbps and has great performance; I can hardly tell the difference from hardline vs. wireless.

Thanks very much!

Ok under Virtual server you have to configure port 47624 and forward to your ip address.
Thats the port that SFC 1/2/op uses for Direct Play

Ok then go to Fire wall button(Note This is for Dlink 604+ only and may work with the 614)

Top line
Source: Wan/ Start IP:*
Destination:LAN/ Start IP:(Enter Machines IP addy)/ Protocal:Both/ Port Range:2300-2400

That should let you play SFC 1/2/OP online and let you Dynaverse too.

I forgot the port(s) needed for SFC3 though.
