Spyhunter, Gyruss, Crazy Climber, and Elevator Action were four of my favorites that come to mind.

I only vaguely recall Gauntlet, it seems Sirgod is the resident Gauntlet expert, perhaps he could elaborate? Or perhaps this will do:  Gauntlet (1985) at Coinop.org All I clearly remembered was that font for the title. (lots of info on that site...)

One of my favorites is Galaga.  I play it whenever I see it. For those of you whom may not remember, it is a space invaders type shooter where they can come down and capture one of your ships, then if you shoot that guy you get it back in the form of a double ship.  Also two vector-based games, Star Trek of course and Space Duel.  The last one is an Asteroids type shooter with geometric  objects instead of asteroids and two ships tethered together that two players could play together.  For those of you jonesing for those old arcade games, I suggest you look into MAME, a game emulator that allows you to play all those old arcade games.  Awhile ago, I was able to play Pac-Man, BattleZone, SpaceDuel, Joust, Spyhunter, Gauntlet, Galaga, AeroFighters, Star Trek, Star Wars (the vector version), on and on for nothing.  If you do a search for MAME, I recommend the Germany site (ends in .de).  That has the most up-to-date MAME versions and alot of ROMs (the game programs).  It's also available on GameSpy under classicgaming.com I think.

Ya, it was one of the four game models - hockey, tennis, and a one player version of each I think. I can see it plain as day in my head but I cannot find the model on any of the retro sites so far... I must ask the old man about it.

Atari made some great games!  My two favorites were Marble Madness and Tempest.  Xevious and Crystal Caverns weren't far behind.  Crystal Caverns was interesting in that one of the levels was made from the high scorer's initials.

I also loved Pole Position, but my favorite driving game was Sega's Outrun (that one gave me a seizure).

BTW if you loved Asteroids, you owe it to yourself to buy a Vectrex system off of eBay.  Its built in game, Minesweeper, is probably the best of the Asteroid clones.

Toys R US has the Atari controller with 10 Atari games built in or if you like Intellivision it has 25 games, both for $19.95 USD. Go on, indulge your nostalgia and play the old time favorites. Oh and the Atari has Adventure as one of it's games

Battle Zone! It rocked! Another green monochrome wonder! Good value for your quarter that was. (It had a plastic viewport for each player and two joysticks each to control your tracks?)

Nope it wasn't Battle Zone, I remember that one.

I was too shellshocked after paying my bowling tabs to put any quarters out for the (albeit) cool looking game machines on the back wall of the alley.

I knew I was a Trek nerd when I went into the arcade and dumped quarters into that sit down Star Trek game where you cruised around hunting Klingons.  Great game.  I loved Donkey Kong JR and BurgerTime alot.  Spent a lot of time on Elevator Action (spy vs spy game).  Defender was my all time favorite though. Mostly because the Defender looked alot like a BSG viper.  I also was fond of Lunar Lander.

I realized that Battlezone was singleplayer over at coinop.org when I looked at the picture of the cabinet. Yup it did have the plastic viewport - but only one, I wondered did they ever make a two player model? Im sure I recall that game head to head. Perhaps there was a 2 player takeoff of it. Did the one you recall have the same green 3D wireframe graphics?

Grimbeard liked BurgerTime, hehe, as I recalll that one was pretty silly too.

Its weird, I was just thinking about DigDug when I realised that the restaraunt I now live over used to be an arcade in one of its incarnations when I was a kid. Must be some old arcade ghosts here that brought this nostalgia on!

Easy question to answer. During the eighties a friends father owned the local arcade and I befriended the coin jockey/tech, so I didn't spend my paper route money on the games they were always free for me. Wasted it instead on a certian Rampart game later on. Funny Bonk I seem to remember the mulitplayer game to be exactly as you describe them. I wonder, were you there?
The Williams Black Knight pinball table was the one that did chew up my time, I simply loved it. As I mentioned I befriended the tech because he was a pinball freak as well so he kept the tables in perfect repair even though the money makers were the video games. Sadly, I have given up on arcades because the pinball tables always have a flipper or sink hole or ramp,or something  that doesn't work properly; a sure fire way to ruin a pinball wizard's day.

Cheers,

drb
