sfc3
« on: December 24, 2003, 01:12:45 pm »
hi gamers and fellow trekkers-i have recently purchased sfc3 and have yet to be able to play it without it crashing.

i have seen all the people on the forums with all their questions and fixes and patches,so this tells me i'm

not the only one out there with a problem with this game.

i have all but given up on trying to make this game run-i have installed the latest updates for my graphics card

ihave downloaded the beta patch

i have installed and uinstalled the game

and have yet to be able to get the game to run without it crashing or telling me that i need direct-x 8,when i have

direct-x9 already.

i really want to play the game and it really looks great, but i feel after three days of fixes, patches and downloads

its not worth the trouble anymore.

my pc is only one year old and incorporates the following
1-dell dimension 8300
pentium4 at 2.6GHz

2-256MB DDR

3-80 GB hard drive

4-64MB GeForce4 MX graphics card (just updated with nvidia  53.03 update

now can anyone tell me what i'm missing?

i would think that TALDREN OR ACTIVISION after seeing the many people that have written the forum about

there priblems concerning sfc3 would raise a red flag to them and they act as a responsible company

and address the problem for there customers instead of leaving them frustrated in attempts to make

the game work.

i see this as very poor customer relations and poor business practice, which will do nothging for their public image

as a gaming company.

i would like to hear from the company as to there reply to my issue .

if these statements annoy anyone, all i can say is that the truth is always hard to hear.

i'm sure that TALDREN will delete my statements here since they will consider it bad press

but i think the forum and the people writting to the forum is evidence enough that the game is a bad buy.

You feel as we all do...  Fortunately, you haven't had to feel that way as long as some of us...  The beta patch should make it mostly playable.  Go to SFCFiles .com, and try one of the great MODS out there.  So far, that is all that is keeping this game alive.  Take Care!!

But he also says

therefore he has not followed the instructions for the patch. Consequently the problem is easily fixed, by uninstalling, completely deleting the SFC directory, reinstalling and applying the beta patch only.

Nothing puts bigger bugs in software then people who can't read instructions.

I might be the only one, but when I installed these drivers for the geforce4 mx I kept getting mid game reboots, rolling back to the previouse release, seems to have fixed the problem.

But like I said it might just be me.

I have heard of some problems on higher end MBs with the GeForce4 MX video card and latest drivers. But I cannot remember details.

A side note, I would dump the GeForce4 MX, it is a low end POS video card compared to todays standars. It is just enough to get by. It will soon be virtually obsolete, especially when Doom 3 comes out!

I would try the video driver rollback with the BETA patch only. MAke sure it's a clean install then only the patch (delete all traces of SFC3 under program files).

It's a shame that Activision pulled the plug on SFC3. We used to comlain about Interplay, but Activision is falling apart.

I have been running a GeForce 4 MX with the latest drivers, and I have no problem with the card.  Even playing Unreal II with all game video settings on high, which is a pretty graphics intensive game, it runs fine.  I think this varies from system to system...

He's right, you're about to run into some problems with newer games very soon--within 6 month is my guess.

Heck, I use a generic integrated 810e video card on my P3 600 mhz and SFC3 runs fine.  Granted, I can't run most games now, but who cares.  Most games these days are etheir role playing games or crap.  If I want too play games like that, I will play them on my PS1/2.  You don't need intense, pretty graphics for a good strategy game.  It helps make games like SFC more enjoyable, but its the gameplay that counts.
