I'm Having Trouble Modeling
« on: February 18, 2003, 12:38:25 pm »
Ok I started making my first starship a few weeks ago, and I've run into a little trouble.

First: When I look at the model in 3D studio the material for the hull looks fine it covers the entire ship, but when I export the model into a SFC mod the material is moved around and all out of place.

Second: The VL and TI bitmaps, the hardpoints are always set to the coordinates of the first one in the set, and I set the coordinates the in the gf file all different, how do I fix that.

Anyone have any Ideas as to what I am doing wrong?

1. you have to apply uvw modifiers (uvw map, or unwrap) to the mesh when texturing.

2. http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?/strategyplanet/sfc/utils/sfc3_hpplacementeditor.exe

use this utility to do the hardpoints. (sorry it's fileplanet, i don't know another mirorr)

I have had this problem before, but I forgot how to fix it.    I think either the .gf file name is different from the model folder name, you forgot to press the save button when you finished placeing the hardpoints, or your hardpoint archs are wrong in the DefaultCore.txt file.  Try opening the .gf file in the hard point placement editor to see if they "should" show up right.  If they are where they are suppose to be, then the problem probably lays with the other 2 suggestions.  If neither works then I'll just have to think of something else.
