I think any site that acts as a central deposit for all things SFC is always going to be a good idea and warmly welcomed by everyone
I know what you mean about many sites being down at sometime or other, it is quite annoying when you're after something in particular, but that goes for anything your after, not just SFc stuff. At the end of the day you have to remember that pretty much everyone here who puts models up for download does it out of there own pocket and with no pay for their time. Admitidely (spelling?) people do move on to paid jobs (see P81) but for the majority this is the way. All things web cost, domain names, web space, bandwidth etc as I'm sure you're aware, so just cos someones site is down doesn't make em targets for abuse, maybe they'd rather spend there money on other/better things, or maybe there are issues outside there control on the hosting side. Or it maybe just be a simple error like a missed link whilst building there site, lord knows I've done that before, lol. Send them a mail and see what happens, they may mail the model to you or correct the problem
As for the Lego models, its normally either "everyone has to start somewhere", or" maybe they're supposed to look like that". Most of the SFB ships are kinda basic looking, their Tholians were hardly a huge leap of imagination for the design department there! All TOS/SFB ships look like they're fresh out of the Blue Peter workshop, but many modellers add bits and details to there meshes to liven them up, some either don't know how to or simply aren't after that look. Remember most people building ships here are self taught and Max isn't like painting by numbers!!!! My first ships was a kitbash (maligned by some people but a good place to start IMHO) and was compared to a Harley davidson?!?!? how a Lyran DN looks like a Harley I never could figure
At the end of the day I feel you offer would be welcomed and is a good idea, more sites making models available the better I beleive, but opening your offer by insulting those who also contribute to the community probably won't go down well and the smell of many a flame war sometimes still lingers round here. I also agree that people should be free to express there opinions, but there's no need to be insulting, we're all suuposed to be grown up (yeah right, playing with our llittle space ships
)
Again, I welcome your offer and hope that you do create a site to offer as many models as possible
