I read through this book and have yet to do the all the exercisies, but I know enough to see that how he presents the concepts and code are enough to make any aspiring game programmer happy indeed.
Also, if you haven't done so already, I think if you have any thought whatsoever of making a game you should not do one iota of work on it until you've read through Erik's book. With these two books in tandem you should be on your way to *successfully* creating your first game to completion.
