GE-Raven's Christmas Gift Thread

Sorry it isn't money, and no it isn't a link of Mrs. Raven in a Bikini (That is for Mr. Raven's eyes only).  So I give what I love, Music.

This recording is a Christmas favorite dating back over 450 years.  It is O Magnum Mysterium by Tomas Luis de Victoria.  An excellent composer from the Spanish Renaissance era.

The text

O magnum mysterium \ O great mystery

et admirabile sacramentum, \ and wondrous sacrament,

ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,  \  that animals should see the newborn Lord

jacentem in pręsepio. \ lying in their manger.

Beata virgo, cujus viscera meruerunt \  Blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy

portare Dominum Christum, Alleluia! \ to bear the Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia!

As much as I adore this song, I think I find these words even more striking.  To think our Lord, Savior, and the King of Kings would be born in the lowest of places.  Mere animals were all that attended on his birth.  This Miracle of all Miracles, was witnessed by those who could not speak of its beauty and wonder.  Then the Angels proclaimed the news not to the scholars, nor the kings, nor even the holy men of the day.  They went to the shepherds.  This was the lowest of all professions, these illiterate, dirty, common folk were the first to hear the news that their saviour was born.  O Magnificent Mystery...

May God bless you all this Christmas.  I hope you enjoy this song, I hope you will even take that time out to listen to its beauty AND ponder it's words.

Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men.
