I really dont think they had pushbar latches on doors during the time of Henry VIII. Why would a ghost from that time use one, would he/she/it even know how?

It's not like the ghost is flying a plane!

I have no clue what it is...but you know, it sure looks like a picture of the Reaper without his sickle.  Wonder if he's looking for Bill and Ted?

I don't( a priori) dismiss the supernatural but the trouble with theses things now a days is it's so easy to alter pictures that you'd need something like a embedded water mark encrypted into the whole field of the photo to catch cheaters. Plus even if the photo were proven to not be altered it would not rule out someone posing as a spook.

Here's a bigger photo.

It'd be nice of there was a copy of the video on the net to see.

Seems rather solid except the left arm and to a lesser extent the whole left side. I'm going to check the interface of the feet and hands with the rail and threshold. I had another look. Is that a left foot or a crease in the robe? According to occult lore; spooks often do not materialize feet and seem to glide rather than walk.

The only freaky thing bout this is that in the cnn poll over 43% actually believe it's the real thing.

Well as I said, I do not dismiss , a priori, the "supernatural" because I have had my own encounters with it. OTOH it is rational to seek the simplest answers first before invoking more incredible solutions. If the simple answer does not fit then there is no reason not to consider other options discarding those that do not fit the facts and stopping at the first one that does work for all observed facts.

Could be. It certainly looks like a flesh and blood person rather than a spook.

Starngely, lots of people at the Telecom where I work swear to have seen and even pushed by spirits such as these.

But few of them are very scientific people.

I personally have not had any ghostly encounters, and it would kinda go against my religious beliefs if I did.

A friend of mine, who is a staunch atheiest / Humnanist, did have an interesting encounter with an apperition the day after  his Father died (he was in second grade at the time).

His account seems quite credible, especisally since he is a big James Randi admirer.

(he also doesn't talk about it much probably becuase of that)

It occurs to me that ghosts are trapped in the past...so was there a door there during the peroid that is suggested by the ghosts appearance? If there wasn't then why would a ghost use a door that didn't exist when he was alive?

Concerning religious belief in the inacessability of spirits of the deceased:  Not all paranormal theories about ghosts require them to be personalities of the deceased. The form of Jewish mysticism called Kaballah holds that when the body dies the spiritual body of a person separates into portions and only the most divine part of the soul the essense of a person travels on to it's destination. The remainder is shed much like the body but stuck in the astral or spirit realm around the material world. The spirit husk retains some memory of it's previous existance. Low level astral beings, demons and elemental creatures will seek to inhabit the husk to interact with humans. This interaction is the only way elementary beings can evolve and achieve everlasting life. They are otherwise doomed to be destroyed and "recycled." Demons do so for other reasons. Mostly to spite humans. Anywaythey can access the husk's memories of it's former life to fool people into thinking they are talking to thier departed kin. Or in the case of demons, to gain knowledge to torment them. Thus to kaballists, spirit mediums are decieved and deluded by gross spirits and mediumship is frowned upon.

My family and I are pretty much Aethists I thought Id first point out. To me that image looks a bit dodgy (his left arm looks intentionally blurred and the slight are around it)

My father has had some experience with so called "spirits" or so he claims, the one of few that springs to mind (and this may seem far fetched) is what I shall tell of.

Basically we were living in a group ot terraced houses and the house next door consisted of one elderly lady whos husband had passed away a few years before. Now one night my dad awoke and saw something literally glide through is room (my father, I should point out, is not one for lying) and through his wall into what would be next door (where the old lady lived) Obviously he was a bit creeped, but anyways he just dismissed it and went to sleep. The strange and creepy thing is, is that the very next day my folks were told the elderly lady that lived in that house had died some time that night...creepy eh?

Almost nothing makes one reconsider thier beliefs ( or lack thereof) concerning invisible intangible and spiritual things as having a hostile encounter with something that you just cannot explain away in rational mechanistic terms and knowing for certain that it was, against all reason, real. I really have no need for faith.  Haven't needed faith since 1995.
