Opinions vary. To some that symbology will be not only readily apparent but vastly important.

As to fire fighting techniques, I've seen some of it on the discovery channel. I imagine it would encompass the inovations of the other mega structures like the petronas towers and thier kin. Likely it will include measures beyond even those marvels.

Besides the symbolism, it's taller than the Petronas Tower, the previous world's tallest building. It is in a muslim nation, by a muslim architect and has muslim symbology. The irony on this unseating caused by the destruction of the old record holder by a muslim extremist terrorist with ambitions of establishing Islamist dominated world order has not escaped me.

No need to worry about that.  The Tiwanese already took the throne occupied by the Petronas Towers when the Teipei 101 tower was completed.

Not to be a little prick, but I think it would be more impressive if the occupied floors would hit 1776 feet, not just the spires.  Maybe it's just me, but placing spires and poles and other such garbage on the top to make the building "taller" is almost cheating in my opinion.  Making the average floor taller so that 70 stories on your tower would be the equivalent of 100 anywhere else (Like with the Tiepei 101 building) isn't much better either, IMO.  In that regard, the Sears Tower STILL holds the world record since it has the highest occupied "normal" floor.

Well you have a point, but there is a long tradition of fudging by adding towers and stuff. Starting back at the Sears tower / Empire State Building fight.

Agreed. I cannot wait to return to the windy city on my vacation next Feb. I am going back to my second home in Chicago! And just when you all had me labeled as an inbred southern yokel.

I think you mean the Empire State Building/Chrysler Building fight .  BTW, did you know that the Sears Tower was designed by a  Pakastani  architect?

No I was not, but I have nothing against islamic or middle eastern people in general. I was just pointing out an irony in the situation. My "bigotry" only extends to extremists and terrorists and not just islamic ones. In fact the more people who make it legitimately from depressed areas of the world provide a role model for others to follow other than blaming others for thier plight. And being a world class architect certainly qualifies. I think he is well past kudos; but kudos to the man anyway.

Storm, wouldn't that be the Chrysler Building / Empire State Building fight? You are right that the adding of Airship docking / radio / wind generator towers goes back a long way.

I believe so. Someone else said as much. It's been a while since I watched the Discovery show on sky scrapers. But I remember the dirigible docking tower and radio tower bit.
