Fed Mission Elusive Quarry
« on: December 16, 2003, 02:13:47 pm »
I think it's spelled eliusive quarry but i cant spell very well, any way it
is he fed mission where you have to take out the tal shi ar base and fleet.
Dose anyone have any suggestions on beating this mission.  I've tryed
many differet ships and the rest of my fleet always gets destoryed.
I've rammed romulan ships into the planet with my tractor beam, if i get too close to the
base and the defese platforms they destory me.  I've tryed to run the warbird
into the planet but only got close once.  Any help would be appreciated.

IF I am not incorrect that is the first mission againt the Romulan Admiral Arai that runs the TAl Shiar... I had problems at first also... I was using a cranked up DN and it ended up I had to Capture a couple Romulan ships... that way there are more attacking and less defending... also launch all your shuttles... that gives them more targets to shoot at and takes a bit of heat off you and the bigger ships...

I've tried capturing other ships and got a little farther but the warbird
really dose alot of damage, i cant seem to get it into a tractor.  Im using
a galaxy class, i was using a soverein class but it had less mariens for some reason.
I think i'll go back to a defiant class, i almost rammed the warbird into the planet
with the defiant class.  My stupid fleet keeps running up there and getting
killed by the defense platforms.  Dose anyone else have any suggestions?

If you do enough damage to the Admirals Warbird she says she has had enough and turns and leaves if that helps....

This thing is like Kobiashimaru, I cant beat the thing, i've tried capturing ships,
the admiral has left before but im too banged up by then, I end up lossing most
marines before i can get the ships.  MY fleet is still getting destoryed.  If i get anywhere
close the the defense platforms i get killed quickly.  I've tried taking a few of them
but in the process i get damaged, i've also rammed ships into the space station.
If anyone has any other advice please let me know, thanks.

I finally beat it using the Galaxy class, I decided that skateing around the ice wasnt working
and that a full frontal attack against the starbase would work, I beat it the first
time i tried this, I sent all my ships to the base a the start, i stayed back and captured some
defense platforms, after the base was taken care of i captured an enemy ship, and had
my fleet attack the warbird.  There is this little frigate that is a pain in the but and
is harder to destory than the other larger ships, after i took it out, i still
had one ship and a defense platform left.  The next mission
seems harder, i thought i was about to win but the Enterprise got stuck in a singularity,
i dont know what to do now, i guess keep trying.

I beat the mission, you have to destory the romulan ships or they self destruct
and thier artificial singularity creates a tear in subspace.  The mission im on now
is where you have to beam an away team to a planet after destorying a fleet, but
after i destory the romulans the stupid away team wont beam down, i dont get
an error or anything, just nothing happens.  I think it should be a law that
games cant be sold until they are finished.

It's been a while since I played the single player campaigns. I'm thinking this is the one were you need to scan for base or something to get transported coordinates. My fuzzy memory recalls your problem, but I can't remember specifics.

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

Well this old fart has played SFB and all afterwards from day one.... I have succesfully completed all the campaigns this week and as far as I know there are no broken missions BUT there are times when events must be done in a certain chronological order and if it is not then, though you might have acheived the end goal, there was something missing or done out of order preventing both a mission complete or incomplete (ie failure) but I agree it is very frustrating... Unfornuatly the developers, programers and play testers, while trying to understand and implement the gazillion ways to beat any particular mission, are human and might have actually not forseen the particular way you (or someone else) beat it... lord knows as a Beta Tester myself (from the BattleTech:3045 that Microsoft killed when they bought the rights) I tried to find the oddball ways someone might find to beat something so hung missions like the one you are refering to didn't happen in the first place..... I know it frustrating becuase I have also been there... you just have to listen to the breifing and understand what they want done then plug away till you win.... if you won on the very first time at trying anything it would be a very boring game IMO... Keep The Faith.... you'll get by the mission!

I beat the Fed Campain easy after i replayed the mission, I've moved onto the Klingon campain, it
was going slow and boring untill my "brother" started going against the Federation,
when he was talking to me in the astorid field i got mad enough at him that i tried fireing
on his ship, i think i'll try to replay that mission sometime and tractoring him and running
him into an astroid, this is one of my favorite ways of destorying an enemy ship if you
are outgunned.  I've also found that most of the mission help if you capture enemy ships,
I dont like the way SFC3 dosent let you have a small fleet like SFC1 and SFC2, I beat the Fed
campain on SFC1, but it seemed like i never got into SFC2, im glad they stayed closer
to the Star Trek cannon on SFC3, although I'm not quite understading everything with the romulans
which brings be on a whole nother subject which was the basis of Nemesis, and that
gets me on a rant that is better left for another day, but i'll say that Data didnt have to die!!
