Its Trilogy Tuesday

Yes the day has arrived.

In several hours, several more than neccessary imvho, the doors of the theator will open I will dash and get a good seat and wait.

200 more or less, will the the once in a lifetime chance of watching both Extended Editions of the first two Films that comprise the Lord of the Rings, with approx 1/2 hour break dividing the films, then the Return of the King.

Like many others, I feel that the LOTR is a single story.  Like JRRT, I feel the divisions are artifical, now I get to see them all together....

Do not despair if you were not amoung the few who struggled against nearly impossible odds to gain a entry ticket, I will post a review this evening, hopefully as spoiler free as I am able to.

Its all over now, baby blue....until the Extended Cut is released.

You might ask, how was it, sitting through all three more or less in a row, it was as I expected, a once in a lifetime event.

My rump was only slightly sore, think trans-alantic (or trans-pacific) flight time to get an idea of the cramp factor.

At the end of the three, there was a prize, much like a hobbits birthday party where they give presents.

In this case it was WETA Pic frame with 3 frames of film, one from each of the three movies, a nice touch hats off to New Line for this.

Spoiler Baby Review Follows:

Was it good?
Yes

Was it great?
Yes

Was it everything I had hoped for?
No

Did I feel in any way disappointed?
No

My only negative comment off the top of my head concerns the minor deviations from the original narrative* ,  which is a pretty dense text. Lots of things in the text that would not work in the medium of Film.  Several things only work in text medium, and some only in film. It can also not be understated that every line in the book could not have been filmed, though many really find this plausable.

Case in point spoiler free btw...

Take Shelob in the Two Towers.  A very well written section, it works.  The filmed version is also very good, but slightly different in plot, but at the end of the sequence, you are in the same place, it was quite interesting how it was put together.
In fact, I like the way PJ put it together over JRRT,  just mvho btw.

The battle scenes were quite authenic looking, the "Massive" effects worked, cannot wait to see extra footage of it on the Extended Edition.

The film ends the series nicely, you feel that you have experienced something special and unique, and that in itself, is a pretty good feeling.

*footnote-I dont want to spoil it for any one, but after its been out awhile and we have let it digest, I want to express my thoughts on deviaton from the Canon Tolkien narrative.  I belive one change was unwarrented and could have worked had the change not been written into the screenplay.
