I agree.  I am most interested in the sprites.q3 format.  That has been one of the largest stumbling blocks from the begining.

What would happen to the D2 access server? (Cdkey checking.)

Does this err... misunderstanding affect the OP patch in any way?

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
Any chance of opening the art asset sprites.q3 of SFC2 (even SFC1) for modding? (I am not asking you to open SFC3, a current game, I am pleading for SFC1 or 2 access. which are elders" in game terms)

on the same note: Any Open source possibilities for SFC3 or 2? (not nessecarily public opensource, you can send source codes to mags, and we can "donate" to him for GAW...)

and Lastly, Will the SFC forums continue?

Heh, I didn't even get access to the q3 file format... does that answer your question?

I don't think that this wil ever happen.. Next to the Starfleet.exe file, it is the heart of the game and as such.. ALL SFC's have critical components in each sprites.q3 file that are either the same or extremely similar to the original in SFC 1. and besides that.. Why would Taldren want to open source to an exclusive game engine that they solely own?

I-Play owns the TITLES only for SFC 1, II, and OP, ATVI Owns the title of SFC 3.. but Taldren OWNS the game engine and the components there-in and it has been their cash cow for the last 4 years.. why allow other gaming companies the opportunity to copy or steal the game engine?

and even MagnumMan stated that Taldren didn't even allow him to mess with the q3 file...

I understand Taldren on this issue in keeping the source closed... that way you don't get copy-cat gaming companies cashing in you your invention or developments...

I admit Open source maybe too much to ask. (I can dream of it nonetheless.)

But consider the case of Freespace 2. Volition (the Dev) has released 99% of its source code in hope of promoting community growth. That game was released around the same time (a bit later than) SFC1... Now, as it stands Taldren doesn't appear to be doing anymore SFCs, (and be the time they come back, if they come back to SFC, the current SFC engine would be totally outdated. which needs rewrite anyway) It is an obsolete engine (it was quite nice for its day, but that's 3.5~4 years ago.) Who would copy-cat that anyhow? It will only enable the possiblity of modding, that's all.

Beside Sprite.q3 is (reputed) to be the art assets (i.e. button pictures) not the "code"/programming itself.

I appreacite you looking out for Taldren. But calm down. No one is stealing from them... It's just a simple request they may or (more likely) may not grant...

mags, if you didn't have access, then my compliments (yet again) about getting those multiple-weapon hardpoints working. (so they show repair and charging independently) It fits into the art assets perfectly!
