Arrrgh spyware need help
« on: December 15, 2003, 06:45:13 pm »
Alright so I got some adware/spyware in my system I tried adaware, spybot, and my virus scan out of desperation and it's still not gone.  Anybody know if anything else I can try.  How come were putting people in jail for writing viruses and hacking but not spyware it's just as annoying and saps system resources what makes it different. can anybody else click on the word spyware and get a crazy link to all these downloads for spyware zappers cause i can.  Ok that only works in the preview post thing.  Arrrrght I feel a format coming on.

boot in safe mode, and try the removal tools.

If that doesnt work, boot off a different harddrive if possible and remove it.

I doubt you want to registry hack the crapware out...

Well I tracked down the company that provided we with this helpful software through one of there ad graphics and sent them this e-mail.  Ok you simpering grots how do I remove your lame software that was cramed down my system in some no doubt underhand method.  I want step by step instructions that will allow me to manual remove your garbage and not require me to download another no doubt even more harmfull file to remove it.
perhaps ill get a response perhaps not oh well maybe the named the file what it's called and I can just delete it.

Ok try downloading and running Hijack This.  After the program runs copy and paste the results the Tech Support Forum.  Post it in operating system sub-forum under the operating system that you have.  The moderators there have a huge amount of experience with this type of thing and should be able to help you out quickly.  You can try posting the results here, but I do not remember anyone stating that they have experience with the Hijack This program.  Hope this helps.

Agreed, most spyware cannot be removed by just using Add/Remove Programs or by deleting files.  Once a spyware program gets its hooks into your system it does not want to let go.

That's great, glad I could help.  Most of those spyware programs are more complicated than that which is why I suggested the support site.

Yabrodan, I was just wondering, how did you know you got infected by spyware in the first place?

From the link he posted - which incidentally installed something fishy on my machine or else coincided with a bit of local problems - it would redirect you to porn sites if you misspelled anything, and change any links to anti-spyware sites to links to porn sites instead. The behaviour would certainly indicate something is not quite right... either with you or the machine.

So, not something you want on your machine, and definitely not on a work machine....

I usually run Spider, AdAware, and Spybot in that order at least every other week.
