Mutual of Omaha is people who can count on to...

shoot themselves in the foot.

Well just got the lovely news from the union I'm in. either I can have my employer pay 200 of a 389 (was 329) per month insurance policy that doesnt do much and work full hours

or

I can volunteer to cut my hours back to just under part time, pay 30 to 45 per month for basic health insurance, save my empoloyer 200 a month, and in the bargain, make 10 to 20 more a paycheck.

Needless to say the management is pushing for me and my coworkers to select the second option, hiring more people to make up the differance. As this insurance rate jump affects a signicant chunk of the union businesses in my area, mutual of omaha just lost out big time. On their side of the fence, they claim the insurance rate jump is required because they were in the red last year, and while this may true, some one in their accounting department was not paying enough attention to the consequences of what was likely to him, a normal response to expenditures exceeding profit.

Screw that second option S, just give us the name of your employer and a website with e-mail or real address contacts. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE to suffer for someone else's screw up or for corp. profit. Yes, I invested in the market before, but I did so with ethics, no Levi's or Boeing stocks for this poor man, no sirrreeee. Don't worry, we will keep the info anonymous, but yes, public pressure can work wonders, think about it...

in all of this actually, the only blunders are being made on the part of MoO, the employer is doing exactly what the union pushed hard for in a two year contract, the union had no choice but to accept the raw deal MoO offered them inspite of getting stuck by their own contract with the employer. MoO as noted is a business that made a bad but understandible decision. net result of all this though, is a reduction from a forty to a thirty hour work week, with net pay actually increasing. When MoO finds themselves losing their customer base in the union due to most folks switching the 30 hour week, then something will likely start getting done, but until then, not much that can be done given the legal situation

Cool, I guess I misread then, as long as you are getting more pay for less hrs, that's cool in my book, as I remember when I was a youngster, I remember reading about this time and age, and 30 hr workweeks with full pay and benefits were supposed to be the norm. Instead, Americans are working more hours just to make ends meet, go figure.

Holler at us if you need help, you have 6k people to slam dunk a company that does one of us wrong... Enjoy the extra free time with your friends and family my man...

Wild kingdom:  While I'm up here in this tree, my assistant, Jack, will attempt to take a semen sample from a 25 foot long wild bull aligator, stay tuned. Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.
