Unless I'm mistaken, you don't need the Ethernet card with the DSL modem, so it just goes into your computer. I was having so much trouble with the two conflicting I removed my Ethernet card completely and deleted the drivers. Haven't had a problem since.

Armageddon. Like the movie!

Phone line goes to DSL modem, modem has ethernet slot (supersized phone line) and USB slot (usually a type B. a Small squarish slot with 2 corners bent in.)

Instead using the ethernet, use the USB. You will need a USB A to B cable. (most new printers use this cable)
From the USB slot on the model to the USB slot. (usually type A, a wide rectange)

And refer to the Owner's manual of the modem for driver installations.

This may (or may not) help, but you have nothing to lose.

WaterTiger, sorry to hear that cable not working for you either. Cable has always done the trick for me.

well now that I have slept for awhile makes me feel better but has not help me that much in the pc dept lol.. My dsl modem's two outgoing slots (that go to the pc) are both the same size and unless there is such a thing as a DSL to USB cable (one that goes from one size to another) i think i am out of luck... my DSL Modem has no usb connection on it. Ghah... I wish i could figure this out.

Yeah I like that quote too... Well I have tried to think of some way to get this problem resolved... I even installed GSA just to be sure that was not causing some wacky problem... but alas that did not help.. I am still getting the same messeges... am I going to have to go back to Dial-Up just to play this friggin game??   I am contemplating going back to EAW and see if I can get into that Dynaverse.... though I would love to get into OP Dyna (I grabed NW's OP ED pack and it rocks BTW) and THAT makes me want in there even more! I still have friends playing and they are also helping me try new things but so far ZERO, ZILCH, NADDA is working... but how do I do this Port Forwarding thing?? and taking my computer into the DMZ (?) is doing what??? I feel like doing this ------->

Well guess what..... I just got EAW to work perfectly in Dyna.... Looks like this is a OP specific problem.... anyone got any idea's?

Rocko

Well it looks like it is time for the tech wizards to get a phone call and see if they can figure this out.....  EAW works but OP don't.... wish I could find out what the darn problem is......

I am starting to wonder if it is some kind of software conflict... I d/l'ed a mission pack AFTER I patched the clean install to 2552 but BEFORE I tried to log into the OP Dyna server.... If I can get into EAW Dyna 2 why not OP Dyna 2.... what is the difference? (besides the fact they are two different games...)

The weird part is EAW and OP use the same ports. So if you can log into an EAW server you should be able to log into an OP server.

As far as using the DMZ on your router. using the DMZ means you are placing your computer in the open and exposing it directly to the internet. When placed in the DMZ you do not have to worry about port forwarding. You just need to ensure that you have Printer and File sharing disabled or run a Firewall on your computer.

Port forwarding varies from router to router. Without a model its hard to tell you how to configure your port forwarding.

Two utilities I found helpful DXPORT and Port Magic. Port Magic is easier. I ran it on my daughters computer when I got tired of reconfiguring my router whenever she got oline to game. Port Magic is fairly easy to use. It will do the port forwarding for you.

Again if you can get into an EAW server then you should be able to get into an OP server.

Thats what I thought also...... I got the following messages at the OP Dynaverse Log-In screen....

1.  Welcome to Online Dynaverse II (well hello to you too...)

2.  Checking for patch..... (well duh, I think 2.5.5.2 is good enough isn't it?)

3.  Getting messages of the day..... (not that I have ever seen any messages here before... )

4.  GameSpy Patch Check complete (oh great something else mucking around in my computer... )

5.  Failed to locate the Directory Servers. Please check your connection or talk to your System Administrator (WTF? what's this.... it seems I have seen this somewhere else too but where escapes me.... and yes my "connection" is just frigging fine since I just surfed Yahoo 60 seconds ago and my DSL is not "Gone in 60 Seconds" like dial up....  )

6. A Firewall has been detected or you are not on-line.You are unable to log in. (as I friggin said before I am logged in...   and as far as firewalls.. that I did remember... Taldren and 14 East HATE Firewalls so I turned them BOTH off )

So.... any ideas.... I am dying to get into multiplayer!!!

Rocko

btw how do i get myself into this DMZ anyways.... and I will try to find Port Magic and give that a try too.....

Edit - BTW I am using a Tut Sytems Long Run DSL Modem if that helps.. I do not have a Model number but I do have a Part Number if that helps... got I am such a Computer Noob...

I don't use a router at all. I mean "pure" wide open, from cable box to network card -- straight through. I let my paranoia go and have my anti-virus program do the work.

So why I can't get in is beyond me. But what he is describing is EXACTLY what is happening to me.

Well I just D/L'ed Port Magic and gave it a spin... and gues what IT said... and I quote this exactly.....

"Port Magic did not detect a residential gateway connected to your computer. In order to use Port Magic, you must have a residential gateway connected. Please make sure that your gateway is on the list of supported Internet Gateways and is connected properly to your PC."

Does "Residential Gateway" = DSL Modem???

It gave a list of supported "Internet Gateways"  are these Modems? I think I need to go to Personal Computing 101...

OMG! You got in?

I don't have a gateway or anything -- unless ChaterPipeline has some sort of internal firewall that is keeping me out of this, but allowing me into EAW and SFC3, which I doubt.

Whatever you did, explain. I have been dying to play OP with all the new goodies.

Amazing ... you would think somewhere OP dooods would explain this to us semi-intelligent computer jockeys?

It worked!!!!

OMG!

**UPDATED READ ME: Turn IE settings to "low" to get into the OP Dynaverse.

OMG OMG OMG... I totally screwed the pooch!   I wanted to make three copies of the game so that I could play on three different servers since they have different requirements that I DELETED all the copies of the game I had on the HD and did a fresh CD install then patched it to 2552..... now I CANNOT get back into the OP Dyna!!!!!!!

Rocko

Ahhh Gawd... why do I do this to myself!

Thanks 3.14... I just tried that on a whim.. a "ah what the hell" kinda thing though now i still get the same messege... I think it is one of two things that are doing it for OP... either it is the latency of my ISP (maybe there are tighter protocols that EAW) or its that little GSA incoming hail about 13 year olds and the emails.... there is two buttons on that Hail... exit and enter/agree if i remeber right... if i can click it i get in... but 9 out 100 tries it cannot be clicked on... the button is there but no button clicking is allowed.... now if i can get past my problems with sfc3 locking up during the DirectPlay test i will be good there too.... it times out and locks my PC up hard when it gets down to 30 secs.

Wow, I have never been able to get into dyna2 for OP either after  I had gotten cable modem and a new computer. I couldn't seem to locate the info needed regarding firewalls, DMZs, NAT etc etc.  I am going to try setting the IE security to low tonight and see if I can get in too.
