Dynaverse 2 for OP... why can I not get in there!!!
« on: December 12, 2003, 11:56:34 am »
Hello all from way out in CA at a little known Naval Air Station just outside the city of Lemoore...  (yeah I know.. Lemoore?? Where the $%^& is that at....?) Anyways..... I am having some screwy log in info since I have never played OP on Dyna... I am getting the standard "welcome to online Dyna", "Checking for patch" and "getting the messages of the day" stuff but i also get the game spy message.. (thats no biggie) but I am getting "Failed to locate the Directory Servers. Please check your connection or talk to your System Admin." and "A firewall has been detected or you are not online. You are unable to log on" messages... well i must be on-line since I am posting this messege !   I currently have WinXP Home on a HP 1.3MHz cpu with 256MB RAM and a ATI Radeon 7700 (yeah I know it is a old as dirt Video Card but hey it works for the time being as I scratch build my new system... crossing fingers) with all the patches and updates to the OS and the 2052 OP patch from a fresh CD install (i think that is the correct patch #).  I made sure the desktop short cut was directed at the StarfleetOP.exe file and made sure to tell it what diectory it was in too... I also disabled the Universal Plug and Play thing as recomended by the readme.txt file in the game directory.... Is the dyna down for some reason? do i need a DX9 patch for OP (since i have the latest DX9) I have looked through so many post that I am going bug eyed (though I most likely missed the one post that answered all my questions) Any help, or whatnot would be greatly apreciated.... and thanks from this old fart that STILL has a COMPLETE StarFleet Battles Boxed "Book Shelf" edition of the game.... woohoo!!!

Do you have the Internall Firewall with Xp turned off?

Also, Does anyone know if the servers are up? I'm guessing they are since I've heard alot of traffic over in the D2 forums.

Same issue with me. Same login problem. I thought I was the only one. I am all patched, run straight DMZ and still can't figure out why I can't get in ... It starting to bug me now.

I'm beginning to think there are no servers for OP, and maybe that's the issue.

I can get into D-3 patched, pre-patched and modded ... I was looking forward to playing OP Dynaverse, too.

And you know how I am about my computer. It's a lean, mean machine I update daily ...

Yeah I got the lean, mean gaming machine building as we type.... gonna be awhile before the first fire up...  anyways.... EAW only gives the firewall statement not the directory statement.... I cannot figure it out!

Yip, I get into EAW just fine. Same message, minus the extra one from OP. Last time I did EAW there were two servers in there ... So I'm thinking that there are NO OP servers, which is why we are getting this message.

Is the Air Station your ISP?

Sometimes, it's not enough to have turned off your firewall. Your ISP might still be blocked the non-eseential ports, for security and other purposes.
If you have a commecial ISP, then they shouldn't block anything.

And I haven't seen the Directory server message, only the firewall one. (I know I am firewalled in.) so Try again later, maybe the server really was down?

And lastly, you are sure you got the right version? When you launch the game it says 2.5.5.2?

I am using a private company that has a contract for the ISP .. it is a non-Navy ISP .... I am using DSL and when I used to use my Dial-up way back in EAW when it first came out I never had this problem.. and btw yes it is 2.5.5.2 (my bad on using the wrong patch #)   I just wish I could figure this thing out..... I am going a little   right now and pulling out what little hair i have left on my head though i am contemplating leaving in all the grey ones ...

Goto "My Home" at the top of the page, then "Personal Information" at the bottom of the following page. You shoudl see a link space for your own personal avatar.

Hmmm DSL... These kind of problems are almost always DSL related. (Yet another reason why Cable Hispeed is superior!:p) Here is a wacky idea, does your modem have an USB connection port? (most do) try using that to connect to your computer. I have heard of reports where the DSL modem has some internal trickery that can only be circumvented by the USB connector.
Like I said,, a wacky idea. but what have you gotten to lose? Except more hair.

OK here is what i got for my DSL box..... it is a Tut Sytems "Long Run" (what a friggin odd name.... at least it is made in the USA...) It has 4 connections...

#1 Power Conection (yeah figured that one out all on my own...)

#2 "10BASE-T"  That one comes in from the wall

#3 and #4 thes are labeled only A nd B respectfully...

Both seem to be the same type of connector.. (the one normally used for DSL wires going from DSL Modem to Ethernet Card)

Don't have one... 'cept a part number.. which is.... 810-04540-15... and the dsl cabe coming from my DSL modem goes into a regular USB port on my Ethernet card? or just on my PC itself....   I almost need a phone tech support for this.. lol I want a walk through! LOL

Unless I'm mistaken, you don't need the Ethernet card with the DSL modem, so it just goes into your computer. I was having so much trouble with the two conflicting I removed my Ethernet card completely and deleted the drivers. Haven't had a problem since.

Armageddon. Like the movie!

Phone line goes to DSL modem, modem has ethernet slot (supersized phone line) and USB slot (usually a type B. a Small squarish slot with 2 corners bent in.)

Instead using the ethernet, use the USB. You will need a USB A to B cable. (most new printers use this cable)
From the USB slot on the model to the USB slot. (usually type A, a wide rectange)

And refer to the Owner's manual of the modem for driver installations.

This may (or may not) help, but you have nothing to lose.

WaterTiger, sorry to hear that cable not working for you either. Cable has always done the trick for me.

well now that I have slept for awhile makes me feel better but has not help me that much in the pc dept lol.. My dsl modem's two outgoing slots (that go to the pc) are both the same size and unless there is such a thing as a DSL to USB cable (one that goes from one size to another) i think i am out of luck... my DSL Modem has no usb connection on it. Ghah... I wish i could figure this out.

Yeah I like that quote too... Well I have tried to think of some way to get this problem resolved... I even installed GSA just to be sure that was not causing some wacky problem... but alas that did not help.. I am still getting the same messeges... am I going to have to go back to Dial-Up just to play this friggin game??   I am contemplating going back to EAW and see if I can get into that Dynaverse.... though I would love to get into OP Dyna (I grabed NW's OP ED pack and it rocks BTW) and THAT makes me want in there even more! I still have friends playing and they are also helping me try new things but so far ZERO, ZILCH, NADDA is working... but how do I do this Port Forwarding thing?? and taking my computer into the DMZ (?) is doing what??? I feel like doing this ------->

I am starting to wonder if it is some kind of software conflict... I d/l'ed a mission pack AFTER I patched the clean install to 2552 but BEFORE I tried to log into the OP Dyna server.... If I can get into EAW Dyna 2 why not OP Dyna 2.... what is the difference? (besides the fact they are two different games...)

The weird part is EAW and OP use the same ports. So if you can log into an EAW server you should be able to log into an OP server.

As far as using the DMZ on your router. using the DMZ means you are placing your computer in the open and exposing it directly to the internet. When placed in the DMZ you do not have to worry about port forwarding. You just need to ensure that you have Printer and File sharing disabled or run a Firewall on your computer.

Port forwarding varies from router to router. Without a model its hard to tell you how to configure your port forwarding.

Two utilities I found helpful DXPORT and Port Magic. Port Magic is easier. I ran it on my daughters computer when I got tired of reconfiguring my router whenever she got oline to game. Port Magic is fairly easy to use. It will do the port forwarding for you.

Again if you can get into an EAW server then you should be able to get into an OP server.

Thats what I thought also...... I got the following messages at the OP Dynaverse Log-In screen....

1.  Welcome to Online Dynaverse II (well hello to you too...)

2.  Checking for patch..... (well duh, I think 2.5.5.2 is good enough isn't it?)

3.  Getting messages of the day..... (not that I have ever seen any messages here before... )

4.  GameSpy Patch Check complete (oh great something else mucking around in my computer... )

5.  Failed to locate the Directory Servers. Please check your connection or talk to your System Administrator (WTF? what's this.... it seems I have seen this somewhere else too but where escapes me.... and yes my "connection" is just frigging fine since I just surfed Yahoo 60 seconds ago and my DSL is not "Gone in 60 Seconds" like dial up....  )

6. A Firewall has been detected or you are not on-line.You are unable to log in. (as I friggin said before I am logged in...   and as far as firewalls.. that I did remember... Taldren and 14 East HATE Firewalls so I turned them BOTH off )

So.... any ideas.... I am dying to get into multiplayer!!!

Rocko

btw how do i get myself into this DMZ anyways.... and I will try to find Port Magic and give that a try too.....

Edit - BTW I am using a Tut Sytems Long Run DSL Modem if that helps.. I do not have a Model number but I do have a Part Number if that helps... got I am such a Computer Noob...

I don't use a router at all. I mean "pure" wide open, from cable box to network card -- straight through. I let my paranoia go and have my anti-virus program do the work.

So why I can't get in is beyond me. But what he is describing is EXACTLY what is happening to me.

Well I just D/L'ed Port Magic and gave it a spin... and gues what IT said... and I quote this exactly.....

"Port Magic did not detect a residential gateway connected to your computer. In order to use Port Magic, you must have a residential gateway connected. Please make sure that your gateway is on the list of supported Internet Gateways and is connected properly to your PC."

Does "Residential Gateway" = DSL Modem???

It gave a list of supported "Internet Gateways"  are these Modems? I think I need to go to Personal Computing 101...

OMG! You got in?

I don't have a gateway or anything -- unless ChaterPipeline has some sort of internal firewall that is keeping me out of this, but allowing me into EAW and SFC3, which I doubt.

Whatever you did, explain. I have been dying to play OP with all the new goodies.

Thanks 3.14... I just tried that on a whim.. a "ah what the hell" kinda thing though now i still get the same messege... I think it is one of two things that are doing it for OP... either it is the latency of my ISP (maybe there are tighter protocols that EAW) or its that little GSA incoming hail about 13 year olds and the emails.... there is two buttons on that Hail... exit and enter/agree if i remeber right... if i can click it i get in... but 9 out 100 tries it cannot be clicked on... the button is there but no button clicking is allowed.... now if i can get past my problems with sfc3 locking up during the DirectPlay test i will be good there too.... it times out and locks my PC up hard when it gets down to 30 secs.

I have killed my firewall and set my IE to low and basically I am letting anything and everything come and go... I did read something on another post that said the game does not support ATI's Catalyst 3.8 or 3.9 (I have 3.9 of course) and the highest it will use/support is 3.7... I wonder if this will work for me....

Yip, I get into EAW just fine. Same message, minus the extra one from OP. Last time I did EAW there were two servers in there ... So I'm thinking that there are NO OP servers, which is why we are getting this message.

Hello all from way out in CA at a little known Naval Air Station just outside the city of Lemoore...  (yeah I know.. Lemoore??
