SFC2 Mission Editor
« on: February 17, 2003, 04:51:27 am »
I am trying to create a mission with the FMSE Mission Editor (version 10303) for SFC2. I have made the mission and the player starts with a F-CB and an allied K-C7, BUT when I play the mission, right next to the two ships (C7 and CB), there is ANOTHER  F-CB (an enemy one), which is not meant to be there!!! Also, the Klingon ally does not attack it, so its up to the player to kill it, and when you do, you end up badly damaged and cannot complete the mission!!!

Does anyone else use this program?
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix it?

I know that bug.  I hate it.  For some reason, when i would create a FMSE mission, whatever ship i had, the enemy would have an EXACT clone of the player's main ship.  Just an idea i thought of just now- try giving the player TWO ships, a F-POL and F-CB, where the F-POL is the first ship.  Then the enemy will have an extra F-POL, which you should kill with no problem.

I REALLY hate that bug because just when you have a perfectly balanced mission, theres an extra enemy ship that your allies won't hit.

I too have had the "cloned" ships bug. Not with so few ships/teams though. Whenever it has occured with my scripts it's been when I've tried to use all 6 teams. If I only use the first 5 teams then it hasn't ever occured.
You didn't mention how many teams you were using. If you're using all of them, or the 5th ai team, limit the # of teams. Like I said, this has always cured it for me. I don't know if it's the # of teams or the 6th team slot (AI #5) that has caused it. I've written scripts with it though with as many as 30 vessels, 5 teams x 6 ships ea., without it occuring. I hope this helps

Would you mind sending me a copy of the .fms file? I'll compile it in my version of fmse and check it out. Maybe I can help. My e-mail addy is in my profile.

I have sent you the original version that I made.

The later version (the one with an F-Pol and an F-CB didnt work so I scrapped it),

I hope you can help.

If anyone else wants the file, just ask - I just want it to work!!

Hey FireSoul,
I'd read a while back that the person who made the "Admiral" mission editor for EAW was going to release the source code so someone could try to convert it to OP. I figure that's why you're asking Either that, or you want to see if you can figure out how it allows 6 ships per team. I know it's not to play EAW lol
The website for it is   www.amusing.com   I don't know if you've tried it or not? One interesting feature of it is you can set the teams and individual ships agressiveness. Ships will actually disengage in a skirmish mission if you start whopping them too badly.

Actually, yes. I am trying to make it for EAW. I just want to know hiow to prevent it from cloning your ships as enemy ships.

Didn't you get my e-mail? If not the prob with your script was having the # teams set to 6. Since it's a single player skirmish set the # of teams to 1. Also, it's a Fed mission so only make it available to Feds and the Klink C7 had A as a starting pt. and from looking at your map, I assume you want it to be B. I sent you the "fixed" .fms file. At least I meant to. Maybe I sent you the original by mistake Anyway, it was having the # of teams set to 6 that was causing the cloning. Let me know if this fixes it for you.

As Rod mentioned, this is a definite fix for the problem.  It has always worked for me too.  Never set the number of teams to anything other than 1 unless you are creating an MP mission using FMSE.

Yes I did get your e-mail, and, yes, I did send you a reply.

I was only pointing out to that other guy that I was making it for EAW, not OP.

Problem Solved.
