Holy Shark Bait Batman
« on: December 10, 2003, 11:01:12 pm »
I found this pic the other day. Have no idea if it's real or Photoshopped.
All I do know is that if I was the guy on the surfboard they would have
to hose out my wetsuit.

I think it is photoshopped Big D, I'm no shark expert, but before Austin I did grow up on the gulf coast besides being born in Cali. Sharks do not get caught in waves like that, they are expert swimmers (they have to swim to breathe) and a shark that mature would know the rythym of the waves. The shark in the foto looks kinda lost...

Also notice the tail, it is blurred out. It could very well be a porpoise if we could get a positive ID on the tailfin... I once went deepsea fishing in Pascagoul when I lived there, and a porpoise actullay swam underneath my parents boat and lifted it a little due to the displacement of water...

I just looked around on the net and it turns out it's a dolphin.

Bummer, that would of been a hella cool shot if it was a shark.
Sorry guys.

Wow, that is pretty powerful, but look at the guys right foot, what is that going up into the air and then back down to the water? If I get home and you havnt seen it yet I'll highlight it and post it up...looks weird though <raises eyebrow, then leave as I realise I should be doing work here>

Probably the tether for his board.

Looks like it. When your out on a board riding the waves, the last thing you want to do is fall off and have your board shoot off without you, so you have these tethers that are attached to the board and which you attach to your wrist or ankle.

Looks like a thin metal or plastic pole under tension. Sort of like a fishing pole. Almost as if the surfer was hooked by something underwater. Could the dolphin wave riding be a decoy whilst his porpoise comrades hook the unsuspecting surfer?

You really think they would do that on porpoise?

No, what you highlighted is the tether alright. You can see how it hooks to the foot. The thing to the right is way too thin to be a tether. Looks like a reed.
