I am posting this on behalf of a friend at work.

He has a Dell 2.1 gig Pentium 4 with 256 Meg DDR Ram, and a N'vidia Gforce 4 64 Meg video card.

SFC3 tells him the game won't run unless directx 8.1 is installed, but he tells me that Direct X 9 is installed.

I don't think he has patched it.

If I recall correctly, and my SFC3 is a little rusty of late, there was a direct x 9 fix.

Does the beta patch take care of that?

You have to apply either the beta patch OR the dx9 fix - not both. That should solve the problem.
