This damned flu part 2.
« on: December 06, 2003, 07:59:29 pm »
Well, the flu is over for the most part I think, its now 1 week since it started hitting me but my problem is, I cant eat anything at all. Normally, I can eat a Western Bacon w/ Onion rings but I could not eat but half the onion rings and a few bites of the burger. Yesterday I made some Craft Mac & Cheese, normally I can eat a entire box myself but I finished 5 or 6 spoonfulls and I was full.

What the hell is going on here?

I didnt eat much at all while I was sick, sometimes not at all. Could my stomach have shrank that much? Does not seem possible at all. I did weigh myself and this would not have been bad if it were a diet. I went from 190 to 175.5 lbs.

Ya, your stomach did shrink.  I did a 50 mile hike and we didn't bring to much food (packing lite).  When we got done at the end of the week (5 days) we had pizza.  I can normally down a large on my own, i couldn't even finish 4 slices.  Its suprising how fast your stomach will shrink when its not fed regurally

Second what Tus said EE, remember I used to be a medic in the army, try humping (no, not doing the wild thing) for 3 days with minimal food during Caravan Guard and then all of a sudden a duece and a half arrives with an avg case of MREs per soldier, we were so stuffed we could not move all day, we just layed in the sun eating our newfound source of energy. Your stomach does shrink my friend, and you will get very tired after eating the first few times.

Hey guys, if I might be so bold, but you are all eating poorly!!!!

One thing that the flu does is build up toxins in your system.  If you try to eat meat, starches, and sugars you are just cramming a whole lot of other toxins in your system.

Sugar feeds viruses, bacterias, and cancers.  It is their fuel.

You need to lay off the solid foods and go with a thin soup, perferably homemade without the salt and perservatives.  And eat some fresh veggies.  Don't over cook them, you will lose the enzymes that are needed to process them.

Drink plenty of filtered water.  Not a "sports drink" that is mostly corn syrup.

The water will help remove the toxins in your body.  This is very important to heal.

Take it slowly.  Don't rush the healing process.  And listen to your body.

I tried ice cream lastnight. Didnt do it. The only things I can really hold down, not that I am throwing anything up, is liquids. I can do those in quanity. So I picked up some instant breakfast and had one of those lastnight, that made me feel a bit better for about 3 hours even though I did go to sleep starving lastnight with a empty stomach hehe.

So far I have eatten half a apple turnover, which is not a lot but I am not full yet which is a sign I may be getting over this. I hope I am, I have now lost 17 lbs since the 30th, which means another 1.5 lbs yesterday.

Also, to inform those who don't know, influenza is a resperatory infection.

If you are throwing up then you either have a stomach virus or food poisoning.

Both of which should be handled with fluids, of course.

Hope you all get better soon!!!

Doctor said I have influenza and put me on re-hydrating sachets, you add them to cooled boiled water, they make a flavoured salt/sugar drink.

He said very light  eating until your digestive system has recovered in a day or two.
And not to take ibuprofen or aspirin as they will irritate my stomach, luckily I have some paracetemol in, as I ache all over

Seventh biggest killer of the elderly, thirteenth of those who aren't elderly.

As for free flu jabs, they should get a free health service while they are at it, that would make a much larger difference

Well my fever broke this afternoon, its down to 98.4. when I woke up my bed was not soaked in sweat. I now have a little bit of a appetite.
The only thing that seems to be hanging on, is the congestion in my lungs. And even that is starting to clear up a little.

Damn EE you dropped 17 lbs    I guess Im lucky. I only dropped 9 lbs so far.

Hang in there EE!!  This will soon pass by......... Hell of a way to loose weight

I feel pretty much fine now. I still have a slight upset stomach all day long but I am eatting. I ate more yesterday then I ate the entire week before hehe. Hell, my 1 McGriddle for breakfast ( which are not that great ) was more then I ate for the entire week of my being sick.

Glad to hear your feeling better, I would not wish this sickness on many people. As for the loosing weight, I am 6'1" and was around 180lbs. Now I am down to 163lbs. Some of my friends made comments about aids because it looks like I lost a ton of weight. I can see the difference in the mirror so I know its bad. I dont have a scale here so no telling if I lost even more weight because I have not been eatting much but I am sure I am nearing the 160 mark but with the swing up in my appitite, I am sure I can hit the 180 mark again without much trouble.

It is usually the elderley who are killed though, maybe they should introduce free flu jabs like we have here for the elderley and asthema sufferers

Seventh biggest killer of the elderly, thirteenth of those who aren't elderly.

As for free flu jabs, they should get a free health service while they are at it, that would make a much larger difference

Above is posted the easiest way to get a thread moved that I have ever seen, sorry

Also, to inform those who don't know, influenza is a resperatory infection.

If you are throwing up then you either have a stomach virus or food poisoning.

Both of which should be handled with fluids, of course.

Hope you all get better soon!!!

Also, true influenza does not last 1-2 days.  It usually lasts about 5 days, sometimes longer.

Hope y'all feel better soon.

Check out
  this source about the flu.
