Does a Myotronic Beam alwasy work?
« on: November 23, 2003, 12:08:10 pm »
Hello,

If a Myotronic beam hits does it always do damaage and stun the opponents weapon array - or does it do 1 of the 2?

How long are weapons 'stunned' for?

Thanks,

It always does the damage, but it will only knock out the weapons if it hits the Hull(or armour), if it hits the shields, it just damages them. A "clean" hit will knock out all weapons, normally for a couple of seconds. If you hit the shields, but have enough power to finish that arc off and go on to hit the Hull, then you will knock out some of the weapons, but not all. If a weapon is in the process of firing, it cannot be stopped, and I think is then unaffected (doesn't matter then of course).

Ya, pretty much what Pelican said.  I love the Myos.  I play Romulan a lot and I prefer the Disruptor/Myotronic combination much more then Plasma.  From my past experiences of Multiplayer fighting, I think that the more Myotronics you fire at an unsheilded target the longer the effect lasts.  Also, it seems that the more Myos you have, the more weapon systems get effected on the target (at least it seems like it does).

The Myotronic Beam works so well against the Borg it is almost evil. If you play Romulan on the dyna load up your heavy weapon hardpoints with M beams and watch the human controled Borg start yelling cheese.

Ya, I notice that too, but I yell "cheese" all the time too with Klingons and their Ion Cannons.  God I hate those things!!!  I have pleaded on this board many times that Ion cannons need a little balancing.

The problem for the Borg in trying to deal with the Myotronic Beam is the fact that their only defense is to keep the angular velocity high so they don't get hit. If they ever do get hit by one a continuing barrage of M beams stops the Borg from returning fire and if the Romulans have included the Tachyon Pulse in the heavy weapons mix they cannot even run.

For myself Pulse Phasers give me fits with their shield piercing although I really can't complain because of my liking of the Klingon Polaron Torps which also do a good job..

Ya, I think Klingon Polarons are probably more effective then Klingon Photons (almost seem useless to me and i hardly ever see anyone else use them).  I just have a problem with Ion Cannons because they can cause an insane amount of damage in one burst.  It says in the manual that they are based on the Plasma Torpeda (I guess?) but even so, I thnk they should have the same Recharge rate of Plasma if that is what they are based on.

Ion Cannons are only dangerous when you let them get in close enough to smell your breath. Fed's warp and shoot, Rom's can cloak then get in close and Borg can keep at range but are probably better off closing in for the kill.

Na, I disagree with you.  Ya, the Ion Beams are only deadly up close, but most Klingons only do that.  I've notice many people design Klingons with tons of speed (like an insane amount of speed of 100!!!).  They also design them with little to no sheilds but who cares since speed 100 and Klingon extremely heavy armor makes hitting them almost impossible.  Ya, every tactic has an opposite counter measure, but I'm not talking about that.  I'm just saying that comparing weapon per weapon, the Ion Cannon is just a tad too overpowerful.  If you just increase the Reload rate to 3 turns (and Plasma use 3 turns to recharge) it would not be that much of a disadvantage to them and it would be realistic too what the Manual says.  Besides, whens the last time you see many Klingons use Photons or Disruptors?  I sometimes see a few Klingons use Type I or II Dizzes but hardly ever any use Photons.
