EEK-OP v2.1 - Total War Mission Pack
« on: December 01, 2003, 06:19:11 pm »
Here's the new EEK mission pack that will form the basis for the modded mission pack of the GAWtm dyna that will include Tholian and Andros as playable races and a beta test server will go up on XC server to test this all out.  When the beta testing is over then the missions will also be ported over for to make a SFC3 EEK mission pack.  Added are base, planet, shipyard and homeworld defence and assault missions plus a lot of bug fixes from the last EEK missions pack.  There are a lot more features but I will post the README.txt file below to explain it all.

Many thanks go out to the Pelican of DomWars (www.pwfe.com/domwars) for providing a hosting site for the EEK mission scipts and to Frey for his server hosting support.

The new mission pack can be found at:  www.pwfe.com/EEK-Scripts/EEK-OP21.exe

DYNA SERVER ADMIN NOTES:
In SFC2:OP, EEK missions are made easier in Early Era by reducing the BPV calculation by 25%.
No reduction is made for later eras.

Recommended starting BPV for initial ships at dyna start are:
Early Era: 70 to 90 BPV
Middle Era plus: 100 to 125 BPV

Also, included are the following 2 example ship list and fighter list specs. files that demonstrate the
implementation of the ship class categorization process, as defined on the EEK Ship Classification web
page (http://www.bellsouthpwp.net/r/u/ruyger/ShipClass.htm), that help in creating a well-balanced
scale of mission difficulty in the EEK missions:

1) Stock ship and fighter specs. lists
- shiplist_stock_eek.txt
- ftrlist_stock_eek.txt

2) FireSoul's OPplus v3.1 model shiplist (can be found at http://klingon.stasis.ca/OP_plusrefit).
- shiplist_opplus31_eek.txt
- ftrlist_opplus31_eek.txt

These specification files have been installed to the game system's ../SFC2-OP/eek_files directory.
The sample shiplist specs. files above are solely intended to serve as a guideline to Dyna. Admins
for optimizing the usage of EEK missions by classifying ship into their proper classes in the ship
list files that the missions interact with.  It is not necessary to use these sample shiplist files
but the customized shiplist files can offer to the dynaver campaign itself the optimal mission
difficulty balance in the EEK missions. The main intention of the whole ship classification process
is to ensure that ships in the Heavy Battle-cruiser,BCH, to Battleship,BB, ship classes
(Carrier, CV, ship class inclusive) are of the appropriate high combat BPV value that the EEK missions
will expect in dyna play.

Another method that can be utilized to control ship production and ship availability in the EEK missions,
and has been working in all my test dyna runs, is to set the shiplist.txt "Special Role" column to "R"
for ships that the dyna admin does not want to show up in the  EEK missions or show up in the dyna's
shipyard. For example, all the X-ships and Mirv-armed ships in the  shiplist_opplus31_eek.txt file have
their special role set to "R" to effectively "comment them out" from  the shiplist and remove them from
dyna play instead of having to delete the unwanted ships entirely from shiplist.txt.  In addition, ships
from shiplist.txt that the Dyna admin. would like to show up in the shipyard but not in the EEK missions
can set the specified ships' "Class Type" to "SPECIAL" but use a "Special Role" value that is not "R".
Again, in the shiplist_opplus31_eek.txt file all the Minor-Race ships such as LDR and WYN have
"Class Type" of "SPECIAL" a few of them have non-"R" special role values so that they show up in the
dyna server's shipyard but not as AI ships in the EEK missions. In contrast to shiplist_opplus31_eek.txt
sample file, the sample shiplist_stock_eek.txt file does not exclude the X-ships from the dyna shipyard
and EEK mission play by not having the "Special Role" column set to "R" for these ships.

The missions will work no problemo.  There's nothing preventing the use of any kind of shiplist with the EEK missions.

However, if you want to get maximum usage out of the EEK missions just try to make sure that ships in BCH, DN, BB and CV classes are not wimpy and can handle harder 1v2 and 2v2 missions than a FF, DD, DW, CL, CA, NCA class ship.   In addition, try not to have the all-powerful X-ships in the DD, DW, CL, CA classes cuz they will, of course, make the missions harder which some dyna admins. may actually prefer.  Or, of course, some dyna admins. will just not use the X-ships and Mirv-armed ships.  Basically, I'm using the  Late Era as a reference point. When classifying an X-ship Destroyer, for example, one could say it's the equivalent of a Late Era BCH, the Heavy Cruiser X-ship is the equivalent of a Late Era DN,  the Dreadnought X-ship is the equivalent of a Late Era BB, etc.

All the ship classification details for optimal mission tweaking are here:  http://www.bellsouthpwp.net/r/u/ruyger/ShipClass.htm

But, like I said, any shiplist, from stock to OPPlus, will work with the missions. Some shiplists will make them harder (ie. lotsa FF to CA class X-ships and lotsa wimpy BCH to BB class ships) and some will make them easier (ie. lotsa strong BCH to BB class ships, no X-ships, no Mirv-armed ships).

I guess the only issue to watch out for with the stock and OP+ shiplists are the CVs, where they are used across the scale for any hull size.

Yes, CVs are the class in most need of re-classification; then, there are the Heavy War Destroyers, X-Ships and Mirv-armed ships;  and, that will cover most of the relevent ships with regards to mission difficulty.

The rest regarding tugs, diplomatic vessels, Minor-Race ships (ie. LDR and WYN), and other odd-ball ships is really a subjective area which I'm sure will be extensively customized by admins. ranging from those that like to have lotsa tugs, LDR guys, etc. in the missions to those that don't want them period.  So, I just lumped all these specialized ships into the SPECIAL class type which will keep them from being generated as Allied or Enemy AI in  the EEK missions.  If the admin. wants the specialized ships back in then just assign them the conventional class types.

If you look at the Mission spec. page and compare it with the ship class page, you will see a general trend depicting the lack of usage of the NEW_HEAVYCRUISER class in the secondary ship roles but are instead used for the primary ships, most commonly in the CA to BC class band. Meanwhile the CARRIER class is only used for AI in 2 missions:  Homeworld Assault and Homeworld Defence.  What this means is that all the CV ships that don't pass muster to be a fleet carrier or battle-carrier (ie. CARRIER class type), in EEK classification system, are assigned the NEW_HEAVYCRUISER class type which keeps them out of the secondary ship role and firmly in the primary ship role in the EEK missions,  thereby reducing the amount of carrier type ships generated as Enemy and Allied AI.  This all follows my philosophy of a more pure SFB game that relies more on line ships for the extensively used patrol-class missions on the dyna, rather than than the less available carrier-variant ships.  It also helps make the missions more challenging and more fun to play by keeping the attrition unit Enemy and Allied AI ships like carriers and PFTs under control.

Well.. I'm sorry Karnak, but I won't be reclassifying the CVs since I intend to continue my project in Taldren's style. I really don't know how to put it in any other way.

No problem.  I never expected you to. It's probably best if you keep your OPPLUS ship list as close to the original Taldren version so everyone has a common shiplist reference to mod. from.  After all, all the customized shiplists that are used for actual dyna played are modded versions of the original stock shiplist.  Just like most of the customized EEK missions are modded from the original version.   Since your project's goal is to enhance the original stock OP shiplist, I think it would be proper to stay close to the original Taldren classification system since you are building on the shiplist by adding ships  and not modding them.

I will  just keep updating  EEK mod of your shiplist with every new release you make and send it out in the succeeding mission pack releases.  In any case, the original OPPLUS shiplists will work well enough with the EEK missions.

I will give them a try with a "EAW to OP campaign" environment once I have worked enough on the next rev of the shiplist. I need to test in a D2 envronment anyways. You wouldn't believe the number of ship entries I'm up to now in the list if I told you.
Worst is, most of them are freighters.
