(WIP) Alpha Fighter
« on: November 29, 2003, 07:42:40 am »

I know its not much to look at right now but the mesh is about 90% complete sofar. Due to the number of angles she is sitting right around 1200 polys by the time she is finished it will be a close 1500 for this fighter. At some point I will be attempting an Beta Fighter as well and a legios version (Alpha-Beta Connected)

Just thought I would up date you guys if you where wondering what I was up to. I thought I better make some fighters for all of those REF ships I have got sitting out right now.

I really like the design of this fighter. Sleek and efficient. How's it goin' AA? I seem to have an OP bug of late - been messin' with the old TNG mod - doing updates, etc...

This mod for SFC3 looks to be a killer. Lotsa comments on SFC3 Files about it..

Hay Chris, I know what you mean about going back to the old school games I gave away my OP to a buddy so I have been itching to even Mod EAW with this Robotech Mod.
Yeah the fighter will look good when its done but all of those dam angles don't help the poly count any. Been working on the engine intakes the past hour or so and I've already hit the 1500 mark so its going to be a good 1700 poly model now.

She should be meshed out by this afternoon if I don't fall asleep in front of the computer. (night sifts will kill yeah every time)

Don't ask how but she is Meshed out in just short of 7 hours. Now for the fun part texturing and looking for mesh corrections.

Bump for up-dated picture

Well some more WIP I would like to show off. Alpha fighter nearly 90% texture mapped getting close to painting her up. I will leave a set of blank textures with the model so you can paint it up or add different markings to it if you get the desire.

Sofar 7 hours worth of modeling and 3 hours of texture mapping.

Progress up date. Texture mapping finished time to paint.  Model is just at 1954 polys.

Alpha Fighter Textured! Just under 10 hours of texturing all that is left is Hp's & Dp's and all of the correct folder structure and file info for SFC3. From what I can tell I got two minor errors in the mesh that I will look into but other than that she is dam near done.

I didn't think this would be a 20hr model but the learning curve on a different approach of texturing took awhile.

WOW!
That is some very nice texturing, i love the effect that you've created - it really looks like something out of one of these type of cartoons!

ancientangel, I asked before on another of your threads, where can your models be found?  I have no idea where you site is.  Could you post it?

Well its in my signature banner at the end of my posts. But it looks like NightSoft's Server crashed again since none of the pictures are working.

The textures are ment to give you that cell shaded look. I took it a step further and added in wheathering to the pannel lines. Its fairly simple to do in Paint Shop Pro7.

Step:1 copy your back ground image and set the new image to multipy @ 50%.
Step: 2 take your spray paint brush and set it for around 7 pixels or mor depending on what your trying to do
Step:3 set spray paint brushes color to a Lt Gray and start painting on the new Multiply layer.
<When painting just run your brush down the pannel lines or to your best judgement. When doing the next layer make sure to extend this newly painted line on the next layer while still painting the first original shaded line>
Step: 4 when finished copy this multiply layer and start a new one like in step #1. Repeat this process for Mult Layers #1-3.
Step:5 Copy the original Background again and set it to Multiply @ 50% and add in your color that you want.

Its fairly easy to do, it just sucks up time.

I created a similar technique on the TNG Andor that I am (and still will finish!) working on for Azel & Captain Korah.
I used the magic wand with about 10-15 feathering set to select the lines, and then deselected the areas around the outside of the lines using the magic wand again but with no feathering. Then simply altered the brightness.

Does anyone know what this is?

I would say I am about 80% done meshing it out. This one may take me awhile since all I have are perspective shots and full transformation shots.  Right now its sitting at a heavy 1400 polys which will more than double before she is finished. And to top it all off from the research I have done no one has ever attempted this model, for obvious reasons when you start to release parts do not line up correctly from the different pictures.

once the mesh is finished texturing this bugger may take awhile since everything needs to be created from scratch since there is no ship schematic.

hmmm ..nope

Its another fighter built about the same time as the Alpha Fighter. The picture is only the front half and the cockpit sofar. More is all most finished and weighing in at over 2950 polys.

Okay slight up-date Legios version meshed out as well. Time to make some textures.

Legios = Alpha-Beta Connected.

Well the Beta project is coming along nicely.  She currently weighs in at 2884 Polys which may go up a few if I run into texturing issues and having to stretch the mesh. The bulk of the minor parts on the Beta have been textured out while I work on the main body sections. Like the Alpha fighter  I will have a set of blank textures to go with this model as well. I am guessing by this weekends she should be close to being finished and ready for Hp's & Dp's much like the Alpha. I am hoping to release both the Alpha, Beta and Legios in the next two weeks if all goes well.
