Question for the Australians
« on: November 28, 2003, 02:43:19 pm »
I do some work with the Aussie Embassy in DC.  At a going away function for one of their folks, some of us were given a nice bottle of Austrlian port and a box of "Tim-Tams" (a type of Australian cookie).

Anyway, I was told that the Australian way of drinking the port was to bite of 2 opposite ends of the cookie, dip one end into a glass of port, and then suck it up like a straw.  After getting the cookie sufficiently "flavored" ... ya eat the cookie.

Well, I tried it ... son-of-a-[beep], it was good ... and packed a hell of a punch.  But my question is ... was this simply a prank, or an actual custom in Australia?

 LOL.

I've never heard of using a tim tam with port. Usually the idea is to use the Tim Tam with coffee or Hot chocolate, but hey, if you enjoyed it that's great.

Port is primarily a dessert wine; goes great with chocolate, ice cream, anything sweet.

I have no idea what tim-tams are but they sound sweet. If it's cookies... well, I like ice cream with my port so who am I to complain?
