Finally some encouraging job news for me!
« on: November 27, 2003, 08:56:59 am »
After almost three months of being furloughed and many resumes later I finally got a telephone interview!  It was a grueling one too!  About an hour and a half with two guys on the phone.  At the end they invited me out for an inperson interview!  This was my number 1 choice of companies to work for.  I have two weeks to get ready, and learn their company and review regulations and such.  It would be great to get back in the air!

good. now the in person interview. I don't know about the firm you are targeting but some use heavy psycological pressure to see if you under or over react. Some also don't appear to be an interview at all but a "lunch" or "dinner." in these they simply watch your habits and mannerisms often not asking any questions at all. Another HR tactic is to plant people in the waiting area depending on the company it might even be the CEO or some such personage posing as a receptionist. Therefore be careful from the moment you enter the parking lot to the moment you get out of site of it on leaving. interview clinics do come in handy. The ones I've been to actually had various companies hiring authorities and officers come in and speak on it. It also had mock "interviews" filmed and critiqued by peers and HR people alike.

Congradulations. Remember: Per ardua ad astra!

That?s a good point, a person applying for a job where I used to work got onto an elevator and then got into an argument with another person.  That other person was the interviewer, it was real hard to keep a straight face all the way up 10 floors.  Needless to say the applicant didn't get a call back.  The only thing I would add is make sure you have more than one copy of your resume and references.  At the interview hand out those copies to each interviewer to make sure everyone is on the same page.  Remember to sit on the edge of your seat, sit up straight, and keep eye contact.  Just don't lose your balance and fall off your chair.  Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the support!

Pilot interviews are, well a bit unique to say the least.  There are mostly technical questions and often include a written as well as a simulator check.  HR is almost never involved as they don't know anything about the questions that need to be asked.  Interviews are usually pretty laid back and the good ole boy network is still very important.  Mostly just 2 people do the interviewing, and they are some kind of pilot/management.  One big advantage I have is several thousand hours as a captain on the aircraft they are hiring for.  We seemed to click on the telephone interviews, so I am hopeful.  They gave me two weeks to study up for the interview so hopefuly there will be no trick questions.

Good luck Bortas!

I hope the job works out for you. If not, I have learned that some of the jobs I didn't get, were the worst possible job I could have gotten. Sometimes things work out for a reason.

I hope this one is the right one for you. Let us know if you get it!
