Just got back from visiting family. Thanks for the home info. I am slowly getting closer to when I can firm up my plans. Right now I know I'm shooting for a specific job that will set me up well. But I cannot apply until three months prior to thier acceptance board so everything is still tentative. But I've got to plan as if It is going to happen or be caught unprepared when the time comes. It is very aggravating. Still even without the position I'm seeking a large city is the best opportunity for finding a good paying job. Therefore even barring the union decision OKC is a good place to start. Further my out of state choices would entail paying out of state tuition if I decide to go to college; at least for the first 6 months to a year. GI bill will only go so far. (That is the problem with the Austin possibility along with sky high real estate values thus far.) As to investment ideas, unless I luck out and get one of those duplex with master packages, It would depend on if I get the union apprenticship or a similar paying job. The military retirement alone is not enough to cut something like that. Thanks for thinking about it, though. It is still too early to think about sans a package deal. So far the one I looked at needs a new roof. They did drop the price 7K when I mentioned it's condition though. It might work out.
Over the week end I finished wiring an addtion to my mother's house that the contractor had stopped short of doing becuase she is paying as she goes. I also noticed the dummy wired the switch in upside down for some reason. The circuit was live but he had not wired in the light fixture. I bought a plain ceramic light fixture and connected in the neutral positive and ground. Activated the breaker and tested voltage and polarity. I guess i'm kind of prequalifying for the electrician's apprentice gig.
I cannot believe the contractor would leave her without light in there knowing she is using the room as a rear entry and storage area. It was just three wires two screws and a wire nut.
