I am trying to figure out how to make models for SFCIII and put them in the directory. What program is used to write the model? 3dsMax? and how do you put them in the .x file?

My responce:

Hi, I'll do what I can but I don't do much modeling anymore.

3dStudio Max is what the Big guys use, However the cost Prohibits us commen Peeps from using It. It's well over $3,000.00 . The option I suggest Is to try out Milkshape, Easy to find Just do a google Search. It comes with a 30 day Free Trial, So You can get your Feet wet.

There is also a fan made tool that is available, that will allow you to export your Model into the proper format for the game. I'll have to find the link for you though.

As far as Getting It into the game once It's done, You really need Excel, you can use Wordpad, But Excel makes It alot easier. Primarily, You have to point the shiplist to the proper model files.

I'll post this in the models forum For you, so you can get some additional help from those who are far more advanced then I am.

always at your service,

Stephen

Thanks Guys,

Stephen

Milkshape cost 25 dollars to register, the plug in for it is free.
Milkshape can not do LODs, or Break models though.

If you have PhotoShop you already have the big boy in the game, if not then PaintShop Pro will work great for around 60 bucks.

 MilkShape for the editor itself

Plug-ins for the editor for SFC, and ShipEdit for SFC 2 editing the files made easy.

As for doing the models in SFC 3 good luck doing the arcs file and such is a pain in the ARSE

@Captain Ron. I think it might be possible to make an LOD or two. I know that the owner of Assimsoft produced a small selection of plugins for the program and one was an exporter for Star Trek Armada 2. This particular exporter used a method of making a hierarchy using the bones function of MS3d. I think the same principal might be usable for SFC based exporting.

there are no LODS in SFC3 models and you could use the Milkshape exporter to export to SFC mod but Milkshape don't support the export for break models for SFC, it combines the break parts into one part
and the joints could be used to make the hardpoints and such, some of my latest SFC models are totaly Milkshape made models
